Winter Springs, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by settlers from Ohio in 1824. It was named for George Winter, who had been appointed postmaster of the town by the General Assembly. The first store opened in 1828 and the first school in 1830. A cotton gin and mill were built about 1840 and operative until 1924. In 1881, a church was built and services were held there until 1945 when it burned down. Winter Springs experienced a growth spurt during World War II as thousands of soldiers arrived to fight in Europe. Many factories were built here including Curtiss-Wright Aeronautical plants which produced fighter planes and bombers for America's war effort; also located here were Bendix-Eagle Aircraft Co., Gulfstream Aerospace Ltd., Motorola Manufacturing Inc., IBM and other major companies during those years. A football team called "The Flamingos" played its first season in 1903 before moving to Jacksonville where they joined up with nearby Tarpon Springs High School that year

Winter Springs, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando metropolitan area and is served by the Winter Springs City-County School District. The community of Winter Springs was founded in 1882 by Majors W.H. and Anna Linnell and named for their winter home on Wilkinson Island in east Tampa Bay. In 1895, John Atherton, one of the founders of Disney World, bought land adjacent to Winter Springs and built his first hotel there in 1904. In 1916, he donated 5 acres (2 hectares) of land to the city for a public school district which would eventually becomeWinter Springs City-County School District. The village grew rapidly as families moved into rural areas around it to escape Hurricane Andrew’s devastating damage in 1992. Today, Winter Springs still has a small but vibrant community spirit defined by its many cultural attractions such as its annual Christmas parade that features over 200 entries from all over southeast Florida; its annual jazz festival; its year-round farmers market; and its rich history that began with Major W H Linnell’s initiatve to build a winter home on Wilkinson Island
Winter Springs is located in Polk County, Florida and was founded on December 12, 1892 by J.W. Shannon and C.M. Hennessey as a winter place for citrus fruit farmers in the central region of Florida. The town's first post office was established on January 6, 1893.
