Winter Springs, FL is a small town in Broward County, Florida. It was founded on December 12th, 1901 by J.P. Morgan and his wife Lillian Kaiser as a research center for the newly formed Fort Lauderdale–Broward Railway Company. The Morgans named the town Winter Springs after their winter home in Englewood, New Jersey. The community developed rapidly due to its location close to both Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach. In 1923, Winter Springs became an incorporated town and began developing its own infrastructure such as a school system and library. The population of Winter Springs increased from 2,500 in 1951 to over 10,000 by 1970 when it became a city. The history of Winter Springs, Florida coffee begins with the first coffee crop in 1916. The town was founded by John Atherton and his family on a small island in the St. Johns River. When he moved the family to Winter Springs, he started a small grocery store and also began selling coffee. In 1935, two brothers, Harry and Harold Finkelstein purchased the store from John Atherton. They continued to sell coffee until their death in 1984. After their death, their children decided to keep the business running as a family-owned business name. In 1988, they changed the company name to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (CBT). CBT continues to produce high quality coffee today and has been providing delicious cups of refreshment to customers since 1978.
Winter Springs is a small town in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,635 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola–Ferry Pass–Largo, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. Winter Springs is located on the Gulf of Mexico between Pensacola and St Augustine. The first Europeans to visit Winter Springs were French traders in 1693-94 when they landed on the now abandoned island of Santa Rosa de Veracruz off the coast of Florida. The summer home of Spanish Governor Manuel de la Vega was used as a jail for pirates before it was abandoned in 1714 and became known as "El Rancho Viejo". In 1827 Captain John J. Fenton built his plantation on what is now Spring Street which he named after himself and his wife Lady Flora Fenton (). He also founded a school, post office and store there called "Fenton's Store" which still stands today. In 1887 A&P grocery store opened in what is now Town Square with an attached bus garage that served as its first parking lot; this building still remains extant today next to Spring Lake Dr./Hwy 91N (US Hwy 41) exit/entrance). The present day downtown area started to take shape with businesses opening up around this time including First National Bank (opened 1898), Piggly Wiggly restaurant (opening 1959), Herald printing shop (1925) and finally Sears Roebuck & Co.'s Kmart store (opened 1984). This growth led to incorporation as a village in 1903 with a City Council meeting held that year followed by elections for Mayor, Trustee, Collector and School Committee members; all positions remain filled today with one exception – Tax assessor – who no longer exists due to annexation by neighboring St Augustine. On January 1st 1957 Winter Springs became an independent municipality under state law 775 ILCS 5/1 et seq.; however, because Village status did not expire until 1966 federal law prevented annexation any further so full cityhood ceremonies were not held until later that year instead resulting in renamed Winter Springs Beach / Gulf Breeze / Clearwater Beach / Fort Myers Beach - which we currently maintain! In 1976 local developer Donald Gentry purchased land adjacent to Spring Lake Drive east of US Hwy 41 from Roddy Stephens heirs for $2 million creating what would eventually become Riverfront Park; initial groundbreaking took place on October 10th 1977 followed by dedication ceremonies on December 12th 1977 following completion of environmental testing! Winter Springs is a small town in Polk County, Florida. It was founded in 1881 by John Neely Bryan and his wife, Julia A. Bryan. The current community was established on a tract of land that had been donated to the town by its namesake, Winter Springs, Florida, Inc., a charitable organization which merged with the Baptist Church of America in 1955. Initially known as "New Beginnings", the original population of Winter Springs numbered only fifty-six people during its incorporation date of November 9, 1881. By 1893, however, the population had grown to one hundred and seventy-seven residents. In 1924 the population reached two thousand five hundred people; it has since dropped below this number numerous times due to various reasons including suburbanization and economic recession throughout much of the 1990s and 2000s. The main industry in winter springs until recently has been agriculture; however, there is also significant retail and entertainment presence including an annual Christmas Market open to the public from December 15 – 25th each year. Many local businesses are also operated out of warehouses or other commercial spaces near Interstate 495/ US Highway 17 which provide easy access for both drivers and shoppers alike during these busy holiday months. One popular tourist attraction located just outside of town along US Highway 17 is Spring Lake which features diverse water activities such as boating, fishing, swimming (including lessons for kids), ice skating (seasonal), boat rentals/parking available year round as well as several restaurants/bars specifically designed for visitors who want something different from what they typically find at home while still being close enough so they can visit frequently without leaving their comfortable home base!
Winter Springs had its beginnings in 1892 when a group of settlers, led by Capt. John Fenton, founded the community of Winter Springs on the upper Sarasota River. The first post office was established in 1895 and the name was changed to Winter Springs in 1897. The community's first store opened in 1898 and it continued to be operated until 1966. In 1907, the town incorporated and began to purchase land from farmers for use as a town square. The original town hall was built in 1912 and it is still used today as the municipal building. In 1916, Winter Springs became an independent city and it has since grown into a major center for commerce, education, and culture within Florida's panhandle area. In 1984, Winter Springs merged with Spring Hill Township to form a new municipality which continues to operate under its own name today.
