Small batch coffee history in Zephyrhills, Florida began in the early 1980s when two friends, Don and Dave Brouwer, decided to start their own coffee business. The first coffee shop they opened was at 246 N. Federal Hwy., in a small town near Orlando. They started serving fresh-roasted beans from their home roastery and selling grinds and syrups. The BrouWER's Coffee Company grew quickly and by the 1990s it had five stores across Central Florida. In 1994, they moved to downtown Zephyrhills and opened a large expanded store with more space and an outdoor seating area that allowed for parking under the building. In 2006, they donated all of their assets (assets including inventory, trademarks, licenses etc.) to the local Chamber of Commerce for use as a public library media center which is today known as the Don & Dave Brouwer Library at 246 N Federal Hwy.
