Nicholson with assistance from George Earp resulted in increased crop production and initial settlers prospered because they could sell their products for a high price at local markets outside of Ada County; this cotton industry led to subsequent growth within the city limits as well as throughout southcentral Idaho until World War II when it declined due to changes in world trade patterns and technology that caused consumers to switch to other forms of economic activity such as farming or manufacturing
