The Caldwell Infantry Militia was organized on December 18, 1861. The regiment was mustered in at Fort Hall on January 8, 1862. It left for the Territory of Montana on February 14, 1862 and arrived at Helena on March 3. The regiment participated in the Battle of Helena on April 14th before moving to the Gold Rush area in search of gold. The regiment returned to Helena on July 2nd and encampment until August 16th when it moved north to Council Bluffs where it remained until September 20th when it moved south to Topeka where it rendezvoused with the 6th Cavalry Regiment. The brigade then marched back into Wyoming Territory and arrived at Laramie on October 15th. Caldwell is a town in Idaho, United States. It is the county seat of Caldwell County. The population was 2,674 at the 2010 census. The town is located on the Snake River and its namesake, Caldwell Lake, lies within its boundaries. The first people to live in what is now Caldwell were the Pahontasans who arrived here in 1842 from British Columbia. They built their log cabin on the south bank of the Snake River near present day's Caldwell Lake. A post office was established in 1844, and by 1865 it had grown to include a small shopping district as well as a church and school. In 1872, local ranchers founded an agricultural cooperative which produced hay and other crops for local markets; this community also became known as "Caldwell". In 1886, George Wickersham donated land to form what would become Caldwell Municipal Park which includes most of today's downtown area including both the old courthouse square (now called Wickenburg Square) and parts of both Highways 23 and 25. Today many businesses operate within this park including banks (including two that have been around since before Caldwell was incorporated), restaurants, theaters, health clinics/spas/amusements (including several golf courses), stores (of all types), offices (including one that has been operational since 1907), as well as numerous churches and religious sites dating back to various periods in history such as Methodists Episcopal Church erected in 1840s & Presbyterians organized April 6th 1830

Caldwell was a small town in central Idaho when it first came to life as a settlement in 1907. The town was founded by John Caldwell, who had come to the area from Illinois. Caldwell quickly became a important stop on the stagecoach route between Boise and the Interior Kingdom of America. The town prospered thanks to its location, access to water resources, and easy access to transportation. In 1928, Caldwell was designated as the seat of government for the newly created Ada County. The towns growth slowed during World War II due to the lack of available housing and military training sites in the area. However, post-war Caldwell bounced back with strong economic development thanks to new industries such as aluminum processing and trucking. In 1984, Caldwell merged with nearby Lewiston into one consolidated city under the name of Lewiston-Caldwell. Today, Caldwell remains an important community with active businesses and a rich history.
Caldwell was founded by the Caldwell brothers in 1887. The town was named for John A. Caldwell, a United States Senator from Idaho who served from 1865 to 1869 and again from 1893 to 1897. The town grew rapidly and soon boasted a population of over 900 people. The first store in Caldwell opened in 1889 and continued to operate until 1971. The original Post Office was located at 1194 W 1st Street and was operated by the Caldwell brothers until 1909 when it was moved to its current location at 309 S 2nd Street. In 1912, the Caldwell Brothers built the first school in Caldwell which later became the district high school. The school remained open until it closed in 1974. In 1916, the first movie theater in town was built and remains operational today as the Valley View Cinema Complex. In 1927, the company that manufactured tires founded a Rubber Works within walking distance of town limits where they continue to operate today as a business entity known as Tires Unlimited Incorporated (TU). In 1951, a large new housing development called McKelvey Gardens came about with land donated by Gail McKelvey-Dalton and her husband Lloyd Dalton Jr.. The development is still extant today with several buildings remaining standing including Mrs Dalton’s old home which she also used as her office throughout her life!
