Afterward, many businesses closed or went out of business as technology changed and new jobs opened up elsewhere; however, downtown continued to serve as a commercial center until the late 1990s when it started to decline once again due mainly to global recession effects which caused job losses throughout butte county government overall As recently as 2006 DowntownLewiston still had more than 12 businesses licensed inside its walls & most residents are employed by either 2 major companies or another minor company that employs most residents
