The Coast Guard Auxiliary of Belvidere, Illinois was founded in 1922. It became an official agency of the United States Coast Guard on October 26, 1942. The first Commander-in-Chief of the Coast Guard Auxiliary was Rear Admiral John H. Rankin who served from 1942 to 1944. In 1951, Auxiliary Headquarters were moved to downtown Chicago and then relocated again in 1969 to its present location at 601 S Dearborn Street. The current Commandant is Captain Timothy J. Shultz with responsibility for both administrative and operational functions of the auxiliary. One of the earliest gifts given by the Coast Guard Auxiliary was a training vessel called "Hornet" which was donated by Mrs. Clementson on October 1, 1923. This gift allowed more people to be trained as coastguardsmen than ever before and helped make the coast guard one of America’s most effective law enforcement agencies. The following year, a second donation - this time a tugboat - was made by Mrs. Clementson and it designated as "Sloop Echo" for use by local coastal communities along the Illinois/Indiana border during heavy hurricane season when vessels such as these could be useful in evacuating residents and animals from areas affected by stormy weather conditions or flooding911 . A third donation - this time a landing craft - arrived in 1924 and designated as "Life Saving Craft No 7". This craft became known throughout the country for its ability to provide emergency medical services during disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes912 . During World War II, donations poured into Belvidere from all over America due to our nation’s involvement in The Great War1113 . One such donation came from Mr. Wesley Akins who provided two lifesaving boats – one called "Hope" which he donated on December 11, 1941 and another called "City Pride" which he donated on May 2, 19451114 . These boats played an essential role during many wartime accidents off shore including rescuing downed airmen115 . In total, the Coast Guard Auxiliary has Gifts Property totaling nearly $1 million dollars! Belvidere is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 40,481 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Cook County after Chicago and it is one of the five cities in Cook County that are served by the Chicago Metropolitan Police Department. The name "Belvidere" means "place where wood covers the ground." Belvidere began as an agricultural village on the banks of the Calumet River about two miles (3 km) south of what is now downtown Belvidere. A post office was established at Belvidere in 1874, and a town charter was granted to it on November 3, 1876. By 1888, Belvidere had become self-sufficient as an agricultural community with a collective store and market. In 1899, a railroad station was built at Belvidere for the Milwaukee Road. At this time, there were only three homes in town; by 1905 there were over 100 residences. In 1913 when Joliet became a separate municipality, Belvideere's connection to Joliet made it difficult to continue as an agricultural community; accordingly, a new courthouse and jail were built within minutes of each other on Commercial Street east of Main Street. In 1916 local farmers banded together to form The Civic Federation to advance their interests in town government through peaceful protests and letter writing campaigns This organization ultimately led to increased concern among Mayor John J.' Crowley about civic unrest which he felt could lead to violence if not properly managed After much effort by Municipal Attorney Joseph Larkin from 1916-1917 things calmed down but some fear remains today that something like this may happen again if progress isn't made towards unification In 1917-1918 another group formed called The Citizens' League who lobbied for more stringent zoning laws among other things Eventually these efforts paid off with new zoning regulations being put into place including limits on lot sizes which limited future growth while also calling for restrictions on building heights Finally in 1922 citizens passed an ordinance establishing city hall which currently stands vacant
