After World War II ended, many Soldiers returned home with medals, awards and items related to their service such as carriages or houses that they had built for themselves while deployed overseas It wasn't until after America's entry into World War II that Gifts really took off within the Army In 1941 Sgt.(jg) Harry Siever gifted an entire battalionof UH-1N Huey helicopters (which were used for aerial bombardment during WWII)to headquarters at Ft."Willy" Wright Air Force Base near Dayton Ohio This gesture symbolized America's commitment to war by giving back something valuable to its warfighters After America's entry into World War II there was increased demand for military gifts because Victory went hand-in-hand with new technologies like radar or jet aircrafts In 1946 Sgt.(jg) Fred Henneman gave 4 P-47 Thunderbolt fighters(which were used by USAF during WWII)to HQ USAF commanded by General Curtis LeMay at Offutt AFB Nebraska This act demonstrated American patriotism through its donation OF high value items 46 years after America had fought in World War II
