His pupils would often ask him for advice on how to succeed in life. 1) In 1903, when officer Harry Smith was killed while on duty, Charles Burtis donated a wagonload of flowers to help comfort his family members during their time of mourning (This event is also recognized by Police Department). 2) In 1934, after years of discussion among officers at the department about what type or gift they should give their Alma Mater (University), Chief Edward J. Donoghue selected a new football trophy which remains today as part of the department’s collection (This event is also recognized by Police Department). 3) In 1941, after years of discussion among officers at the department about how best to mark special occasions such as Christmas or Anniversaries, Chief Edward J Donoghue selected gift certificates for local businesses so that citizens could purchase items from them instead (This event is also recognized by Police Department). 4) In 1951, after years of discussion among officers at the department about how best to show appreciation for those who serve within our community (including police officers), Chief Edward J Donoghue selected holiday cookies as part of Officer Appreciation Day (This event is also Recognized by Police Department).

Fairview Heights is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 51,746 at the 2010 census. It is the third most populous city in Cook County after Chicago and Oak Park. Fairview Heights is located on the south side of Chicago and borders the Village of Hinsdale to the east, DeKalb Township to the north, and Winnetka Township to the west. The site of Fairview Heights was originally part of a small Indiana town named Fairfield which was laid out in 1833 by Major John Todd (1792-1860). The original settlers were mainly German immigrants who had come overland from Germany prior to that time. The first house in what would become Fairview Heights was built by Johann Wehner in 1835. In 1856, Samuel Morse donated land for a school which became known as Morse School District No. 1. In 1867, voters approved a charter for what would become Fairview Heights with a population of 50 people only; this number increased to 100 when it moved into its current location on South State Street in 1881. In 1912, following annexation byChicago of adjacent University Park Township, FairVIEW HEIGHTS CITY WELFARE DISTRICT NO 1 INC WAS FORMED WITH A PORTION OF THE PROPERTY OWNED BY WILLIAM HOWARD FOR THE PROVISION OF PUBLIC FOOD SERVICES TO HIS NEIGHBORS IN UNIVERSITY PARK TOWNSHIP AND THEIR RESPECTIVE CITIZENS

Fairview Heights is located in the Kane County, Illinois, area and is a village that was founded in 1865. The population of Fairview Heights was 2,020 as of the 2010 census. In 1868, the Chicago & Northwestern Railway built a line through Fairview Heights and it became known as the "Chicago Main Line." The village Caitlinville merged into Fairview Heights in 1968. The Village of Fairview Heights had two schools from 1870 until they were closed in 1945 due to World War II-era budget cuts. Thereafter, only one house remained open for education until 1984 when the first school building opened its doors. After years of progress made by the School District (Kane County), construction began on a new high school whichopened its doors to students on September 1st, 2013. The history of this small community dates back to 1865 when a group of men decided to build their own town after leaving their farmstead near Kankakee and moving westward along what is now I-55. At first they called themselves "Farmingdale", but soon shortened their name to "FairVIEW HEIGHTS". They built their homes at what is now 7th Street and then at an old quarry called Green Pond which still stands today just south of Park Avenue North. In 1868, when Chicago & Northwestern Railway began construction through FairVIEW HEIGHTS, it connected with other railroads including the Milwaukee Road and Stony Island Railroad making it possible for people living within fair VIEW HEIGHTS to get work throughout much of northwest Chicago including various mills located along Clybourn Ave., Wabash Ave., Dearborn Rd., State St., Erie Canal Towpath etc...Today many descendantsOF these early settlers still live withinFairVIEW HEIGHTS!
