The Coast Guard Gift History in Forest Park, Illinois began with the creation of the Coast Guard Station at Forest Park in 1892. The Coast Guard Auxiliary of Forest Park, Illinois was organized on December 1, 1922. The present-day Coast Guard Auxiliary trace their roots back to that year’s founding. At the time, the Forest Park Volunteer Fire Department had a small unit dedicated to providing aid and assistance to the Coast Guard. On December 1, 1922, a group of men from the volunteer fire department convened to form what would eventually become the Coast Guard Auxiliary of Forest Park. Today, membership in the Coast Guard Auxiliary of Forest Park is open to anyone who desires it. The auxiliary provides support for both local and federal agencies through its wide range of services including traffic control and emergency response. In addition to its primary purpose as an aid and assistance organization for the Coast Guard, the Auxiliary also engages in many other community service initiatives. Through its efforts in multiple fields such as education and outreach,the Auxiliary has helped build relationships with numerous organizations throughout Greater Chicago area. In sum, since 1922 when Forest Park Volunteers first organized themselves into a coast guard auxiliary there have been many accomplishments made by this community-owned institution!
Forest Park is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 30,824 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Kane County after Chicago. Forest Park was founded on October 1, 1871 by Luther Martin and his brother Amos. The city of Forest Park was established on October 1, 1871 when Luther Martin and his brother Amos purchased land from the Ottawa Indians for $1 per acre. The first houses were built on what is now North Main Street. A post office called Forest Park was opened in 1872 and remained in operation until it closed in 1911. In 1886, a school named Forest Park High School was established within the boundaries of present day Forest Park. It operated until 1925 when it merged with WesternIllinois High School to form WesternIllinois/ForestPark Schools District No. 2 which continues to operate today as one of four high schools within the district that effects both education and business operations within the City of Forest Park

Forest Park, Illinois is a small town in the northwestern corner of Illinois. It lies on the border of Cook County and DuPage County, and has a population of about 26,000. The name Forest Park comes from the forest that once thrived near its location. The community was established in 1872 as a result of the annexation of part of neighboring Woodridge by Forest Park. The first school in Forest Park was built in 1875 and it serviced the residents of nearby Lombard. In 1888, Forest Park became an incorporated village and its first mayor was Samuel Satterwhite. The village had two churches – one Protestant and one Roman Catholic – as well as a post office, bank, grocery store, lumberyard (later acquired by J&L Lumber Company), Grain Elevator, Playground (later acquired by Chicago Parks Department), Lion House (now known as the Edward Ives Museum), Ford Model T dealership (now known as Ford Motor Company Garage) and lumber yard/shop complex (now known as Greenbelt Recreation Center). In 1932, when Illinois joined the United States during World War II, Forest Park became an important center for military purposes because it served as headquarters for U.S. Troops stationed in what is nowDuPage County. A large army barracks and other military facilities were constructed here during World War II; they have since been demolished but their site still conceals remnants of what may have been this largest armaments factory in Illinois at that time. Forest Park experienced rapid growth following World War II due to suburban development across Cook County which excluded most downtown businesses from competition. Forest Park was founded in 1871 by George Washington, who named it in honor of his friend and mentor, General David Dixon. The park is located in the city of Chicago, on the Northwest Side. It is bordered by Harrison Street to the north, Clinton Avenue to the east, Wabash Avenue to the south, and Cicero Avenue to the west. Forest Park has a total area of 9 square miles (22 km2).
