The Illinois Army National Guard was organized on July 16, 1861, in Springfield, Illinois. The unit was initially known as the 11th Infantry Regiment. It was redesignated the 111th Infantry Regiment on December 15, 1861. On November 17, 1862, it was redesignated the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Armored Division and then the 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Armored Division on February 24, 1863. It became brigade headquarters and divisional artillery regiment on May 20, 1863. It became a field army corps under General Ulysses S. Grant on September 18, 1863. The regiment changed its name to the 7th Cavalry Regiment in 1865 and then to the 111th Infantry Regiment again in 1868.
Hazel Crest is a city in and the county seat of Hazel Township, Knox County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,047 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in what became Hazel Crest was John Nevin in 1837. The town site was surveyed in 1839 by Abram Lincoln and James Shields. In 1845, when it became a village, Robert Haggerty donated land to Hazel Crest for a public square. A post office called "Hazel Crest" was established in 1850, and remained in operation until it closed on June 5, 1907. In 1870, Isaac Fuller founded Fuller's Mills on the east side of Hazel Crest from where he ran a flour mill until his death in 1922; Fuller's son continued operations as Fuller's Mill & Elevator Company until 1974. The city also includes an amusement park known as "Zoozeland". A fire destroyed most of the buildings around this time (1870-71), but new businesses were built quickly with help from local subscribers to the dame fund which had been set up to rebuild lost property after disasters such as floods and railroads derailments. In 1880 two churches were built: First Baptist Church (now Christ Episcopal) on East Prairie Avenue and Second Presbyterian Church on West Prairie Avenue – both now gone but their bricks still remain at one point near top of ridge overlooking downtown area today! Hazel Crest is a small city in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,873 at the 2010 census. Hazel Crest is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was platted in 1853 by John Dutton and James O'Keefe. It took its name from an early settler, Hazel Findlay. A post office was established at Hazel Crest in 1854, and remained in operation until 1906. In 1886, the Pittsburgh Railroad donated land to the town for a depot and freight station; the town built the depot and other infrastructure. In 1912, Hazel Crest became a city when it annexed part of Appleton Township; prior to that it had been a rural municipality. The city has since grown rapidly thanks to its location near Lake Michigan and Interstate 65/I-94 exit 15A: within a few years of becoming a city, Hazel Crest had over 100 businesses and 2,000 residents. One of the most famous residents of Hazel Crest was pitcher Curt Schilling who attended local high school there before going on to play for major league baseball's Boston Red Sox (1995-2004). After playing his entire career with Boston (1962-2001), he moved back home to help start Elmira Hops Inc., which he ran until his death in 2004. In recent years some changes have occurred in Hazel Crest as well: The opening of Elmira Hops Inc.'s new plant which makes malt whisky; demolition of some original structures including what once housed the town hall; increasing traffic on I-65 due to development adjacent to the former commercial acreage now housing homes; increase in crime rates as result of this increased activity
