Markham is a small, rural town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 3,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The village of Markham was organized on April 2, 1847 by Rev. John Prentice and others as a result of the open-air conversion of an old cornfield into a village square. The name "Markham" means "place where there are many hogs." In 1872, the Village Board voted to change its name to "Harrison," after General Harrison's military campaign against Native Americans in what is now Indiana. In 1930, when Illinois became an all-encompassing state within the United States and Harrison stopped being a part of Cook County, it merged with other villages in Cook County that also had namesakes like Arlington Heights and Skokie. The first post office at Markham opened on November 25th, 1853. By 1860, there were six mailboxes in the village; two were added in 1870 and 1880 due to population growth. The only store built before 1840 was a one room schoolhouse which burned down in 1881 but was rebuilt with larger dimensions ten years later for $4 per acre (the current site). The first telephone line arrived in Markham on October 10th 1899 from Metra Station at Oak Lawn Avenue and Roosevelt Road; it connected with other villages along Route 66 north of Chicago through central Illinois before terminating at Plainfield station about 20 miles west of Chicago near Rockford Junction. In 1927 offshoot village Harrisonville opened north of Plainfield providing services for residents south of Plainfield including those living in towns such as Elmhurst and Hammondsport while still relying heavily on village services such as police residency patrols and garbage pickup including until 1974 when this service was discontinued entirely due to budget cuts following World War II .By 1990 there were no morevillages remaining within Cook County so Harrisonville merged intoplainfield becoming just another town with no special significance apart from being located adjacent to Plainfield

ThisVehicle remains operational today on showroom floors throughout New South Wales police services! In 1988 Perth City Council gave two motorcycles (one black and one white) valued at £2 each to its mounted patrols unit for use within city limits only! These bikes remain popular among Perth’s policing community still today! In 1994 Queen’s Constabulary staff gifted three bicycles (a Raleigh mountain bike valued at £120 each), two radios (valued at £30 each), commemorative badges (worth about £50 each) and money orders worth $100 each towards purchase of an armouredvan! This van became known as ‘The Bus’ after being purchased from another local organization that also received donations from members of the public! It has now served as both a crime prevention tool as well as providing transportation for constables during festive occasions across Canada! Also in 1994 RCMP Staff gave four dogs - three purebred German Shepherds named Snoopy (an event which took place at Exhibition Place) followed by Goldie ($1,500 value) -to Edmonton detachment EOD Unit along with food vouchers good for 30 days!. The dogs currently provide service within EPS detachment Community Support Services program which provides education/training opportunities for youth living within EPS detachment area

Markham is a small town in central Illinois, United States. The population was 654 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Peoria–Bloomington–Normal Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Markham was John Hardesty, who arrived in 1803. He and his family built a log cabin on the current site of the town in 1807. Other early settlers included Elias Howe, John Goode and his brother-in-law Nicholas Biddle. The town name was derived from an Indian word meaning "place where many fish live." In 1832, David Stone purchased land east of present day Markham for $1,000 to start a farm that would eventually grow into one of Illinois' largest corn fields. Stone's farm became known as Stone's Cornfield until it was sold to Harry Chandler in 1907. In 1916, the village of Markham merged with Bloomington and became part of the larger metropolitan area which includes Peoria and Bloomington. A post office called Markham has been established in this location since 1837 (under various names). The current name may be derived from pioneer Levi Coffin's suggestion that it be called "Cottonwood" after seeing large trees near his home during a visit to the area some years earlier. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln visited Markham while he was campaigning for president; he stopped at Stone's Cornfield for dinner before continuing on to nearby Carbondale .
