The Midlothian, Illinois Marine Museum has a rich history dating back to the mid-19th century. The museum was started in 1881 by Dr. Edwin A. Sibley, who donated his collection of marine fossils and memorabilia to the community. In 1924, the museum moved from its original location on the banks of the Iuka River to its current location on Veterans Drive in Midlothian.
Midlothian, Illinois is a town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,848 at the 2010 census. Midlothian is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Midlothian is located in the center of McHenry County and is bordered by Rockford to the north, Aurora to the east and south, and Streamwood to the west. Midlothian takes its name from George Washington's home state of Virginia. Mid-Lothian Township was organized on November 3, 1837 from land that had been donated by John Sibley. The first settler in this township was James Gowan who came from Ireland in 1829. On July 2, 1840 another Irishman named Prentice arrived with his family and started a grist mill which became one of the largest flour mills in Illinois; it still stands today and grinds cornmeal, wheaten flour and other products. According to the United States Census Bureau, Midlothian has a total area of 41 square miles (100 km²), all of it land. The community has been called "the heart of McHenry County" for many years because of its location near several large manufacturers including Armour Manufacturing Company (now Arisys) Headquarters as well as General Motors Plant No 1 (later GM North America). Despite this designation by others, much development has taken place within walking distance or less since these times including: Arundel Elementary School opened in 1984; Spaulding Intermediate Schoolopened in 1990; Stinson Middle Schoolopenedin 2002; Ladd Middle Schoolopenedin 2006; Potter High Schoolopenedin 2009 These schools have helped contribute greatly toMidlothiano's current makeup as it now includes over 40% K-12 students enrolled through ninth grade In addition numerous businesses have moved into Mid-Lothiana over recent decades such as American Weighmetals Inc., Subway sandwich shop( relocated from Aurora), Audiqus( relocate from Streamwood), Blue Cross Blue Shield - Scott Ambulatory Care Facility expansion announced in early 2016 It should be noted that not all residents within Midlothiana enjoy equal access to resources or success through economic endeavors so there are always some midtowners who feel left out or forgotten due diligence should be exercised when making assumptions about what everyone does/doesn't do

On October 26, 1865, the United States Navy purchased a schooner named SS Constitution from the Hamburg-America Line. The ship was built in 1853 and served as an American warship during the Spanish-American War and World War I. After serving as a floating ammunition depot for sailors in Havana, Cuba during the war, the Constitution was sold to Danish shipping company A.P. Moller in 1922 and renamed Aalborg Amtsskib. The ship deterioration led to her being donated to Danish navy by her owner in 1932 as part of a program to donate ships seized by Denmark during its involvement in World War II. On February 8, 1948, she was dedicated at Nyhavn naval base and became property of the Danish navy until she was sold back to Aalborg Amtsskib on November 5, 1958.
Midlothian, Illinois is a small town located in McLean County, Illinois. The population was 1,512 at the 2000 census. Midlothian is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1853 as a railway stop on the Chicago and Northwestern Railway. Midlothian grew rapidly after railroad construction began in the early 1800s, and by 1870 it had a population of 2,000. By 1920, Midlothian had reached its peak with a population of 5,000. However, during World War II Midlothian's economy contracted as military production shifted to nearby Missouri City and Elkhart Lake. In 1960, Midlothian voted to secede from Mclean County and become an independent city separate from Springfield. Midlothian's history begins with its location on the Chicago & Northwestern Railway (C&NW). The C&NW ran through much of Central Illinois until it was replaced by the Union Pacific Railroad in 1853. At that time, Mid-LOTHIAN became the first village within McLean County when it was organized under section 3 of the Act for organization of counties dated December 12th 1853 which provided for "the erection of public buildings...for all purposes". The first school in what would become Mid-LOTHIAN was built on Main Street in 1854 by Mr Troup who also served as village clerk and treasurer from that year until his death five years later. The building still stands today and is used for social events such as weddings or funerals today! The first post office opened at this address on March 8th 1861 by Captain Waddell with office hours 10am to 4pm Monday thru Friday! In 1865 General Lew Wallace purchased land east of present day Village Square which he called "The Wallace Farm". He laid out streets there including Main Street which he named after himself while still living at The Wallace Farm north of Village Square; Keystone Road (now Elmwood Avenue); Indian Trail (now Community Parkway); McKinleyville Road(now University Boulevard)and Park Drive(now West Elmhurst Avenue). All these streets are still in use today! During Reconstruction following Civil War soldiers returned home to find their townships changed hands multiple timesincluding Algonquin Township being taken over by Chicago in 1865 then Middleton Township being taken over by Rock Island Railroad before finally becoming part of Aurora township again! It wasn't until 1870 when construction began on what would become known as "Mid-LOTHIAN" when businessmen John Bullock and George Stephenson decided to build an agricultural township west off main street near where they were working - this area now forms parts of Village Square! A new school house was built soon afterwards followed by stores/a blacksmith shop/a hotel/an opera house/a Baptist church etc......all within one blocks radius!! This period saw many milestones including: First streetcar ride into town along main streetJuly 9th 1874;First telephone line serviceOctober 15th 1888;First US postage stamp issue November 16th 1893 Two days later another milestone occurred when two steamboats arrived from Des Moines– one carrying mailbags filled with messages sent back home via rail then moored off Grand River behind Mr Troup’s store;the othercarrying passengers downriveron her maiden voyage Sturgeon Bay bound!!! Here we have another exampleof how transportation ledto civic life!! AlongsideGRAND RIVER cameMILITARY PRODUCTION resultingin increased trade throughout central IL.. midwesterners found themselves buying things not onlyat local merchants but also items exportedfrom abroad across our great lakes region!!!!! Due to economic conditions during World War II plants closed jobs here while people relocated elsewhere due to war production shortages however industry has slowly revived since then providing some new jobs for locals like engine builders working at Ford Motor Company or machinists making products like cars or trucks!!!! The town had a population of around 100 people when it was founded. By 1860, the population had grown to over 500 people. In 1870, the town got its own post office and saw growth once again as businesses started to come up with new names like Mid-Lothian Express and Mid-Lothian Coal & Coke Company. In 1925, the first school in Midlothian opened its doors and continues to serve as the town's main public school today.
