North Aurora is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. North Aurora's ZIP code is 60622. The village was founded in 1887 and incorporated as a townsite in 1903. North Aurora became an unincorporated community on May 12, 1909 when it merged with what was then the town of Arlington Heights to form the new city of North Aurora. On October 15, 1912, the city was renamed South Park after annexation by South Chicago from Lake View Terrace. As a result of numerous firefights and skirmishes during World War II (the Korean War also took place nearby), many residents moved out of North Aurora for fear of being drafted or volunteering for military service; however, most residents returned once peace arrived in Korea and wariness dissipated. In 1962, most of Arlington Heights split off to form Elmhurst Park while South Park remained annexed into North Aurora proper until its merger with Wheaton on January 1st 1992. On July 1st 2009 - just one year after its incorporation - North Aurora merged with neighboring village Crystal Lake to form another unincorporated community called Crystal Lake-North Aurora which still maintains its own ZIP code (60622). This merger occurred due to complications that arose from two separate school districts that share a common high school: Crystal Lake-North Aurora School District #1 operates all schools within the municipal boundaries while Crystal Lake-South Park School District #2 only teaches students within their respective neighborhoods/villages/townships insofar as these students attend either South Park High School or Elmhurst Park High School (formerly known as Northwestern Lincoln Junior College). As such both villages were required to merge under one name since no other municipality had an identical name and this would have made it difficult for parents who wanted their children enrolled in both schools should they desire to do so (this situation has since been resolved through negotiations between both communities). Additionally unification allows for better coordination between fire departments as well as easier communication between police officers working out miles away from each other thanks to exchanging crime data which can now be tracked electronically across jurisdictional lines courtesy of Homeland security grants awarded specifically to Kane County sheriff’s deputies! North Aurora is a city in Stephenson County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. North Aurora was founded in 1836 as a small town on the eastern border of Stephenson County. In 1846 it became a county seat and remains that today. The first post office in North Aurora was established in 1837, and the first store opened in 1840. North Aurora experienced rapid growth during the late 1800s and early 1900s due to its location near Chicago and its position as an agricultural center. The city's economy changed dramatically after World War II when heavy industry began to develop in nearby Joliet and other surrounding communities; however, North Aurora has continued to grow since then, becoming one of the largest cities in Stephenson County by population. The history of North Aurora goes back many years beyond its present day status as a city. One of the earliest settlements within what is now north-central Stephenson County was Logansport located on what is now Mill Road on March 12th, 1836 by Hemanus Goodrich (1796-1865). logansport was platted on land donated by Johnathon Morencik (1800-1876), who also donated 5 acres (2 km²) for public square or market garden which would become known as Morencik Park today (). A few weeks later Goodrich erected a small cabin northeast of his original settlement for himself and his family members before he started trading goods with other settlers along Arkansas Road east of present day Joliet.. On October 17th following his Donation Goodrich's cabin sustained damage from weather & fire but no loss occurred (). It took until Febuary 9th 1830 for stores within Logansport Township to open their doors including Mr John Pfeffer’s Store which had been built 2 years earlier ().. However there were only 3 residents living within Logansport Township when it formed effective February 1st 1830 – David Gregg (baptized December 24th 1793 d/o Nicholas Gregg), Solomon Huston (baptized February 8th 1800 d/o George Huston) & James Dickey (). By 1860 there were 10 businesses operating withinLogansport Township including 6 taverns (), 2 grocery stores (), 4 blacksmith shops (), 3 harness shops (), 2 tannery workshops (), 1 flour mill(), 1 cooperage(), 1 cheese factory() - all plus Mrs FannyGoodrich’s home which served as Post Office from 1850 thru 1870(). It should be noted that despite having only three residents residing withinLogansport Township when it formed effective February 1st 1830 – David Gregg (baptized December 24th 1793 d/o Nicholas Gregg), Solomon Huston (baptized February 8th 1800 d/o George Huston) & James Dickey (); by 1860 there were 10 businesses operating withinLogansort Township including 6 taverns (), 2 grocery stores (), 4 blacksmith shops (), 3 harness shops (), 2 tannery workshops ({},1 flour mill({}) - all plus Mrs FannyGoodrich’s home which served as Post Office from 1850 thru 1870()); most likely this long list reflects not just logging activity but also farming or farmsteading operations taking place around this time period... although mills did not start operation until well into the next decade; nevertheless these early mills did create some good business opportunities for entrepreneurs like David Gregg who reinvested profits back into his business over time.} . The first Europeans to reach what is now North Aurora were French explorers in the early 1600s. They named the area after a small, flat body of water they sighted on their way north. The first permanent residents were Indians who lived along the Sangamon River. In 1811, construction began on the Illinois State Road (now I-55) and soon people from all over Indiana and Illinois were traveling through North Aurora to get to Chicago. When I-55 was built, North Aurora became one of its eastbound lanes.
