In 1970 Elmwood Heights annexed Villa Park making it one large community within Oak Park boundaries. The following year VillaPark merged with LaSalle Township to form laSalle/Oak park Township just north of downtownChicago; however their incorporation did not take effect until after Oakpark's annexation into laSalle Township in 1978 .
