Shorewood is a city located in the far north-central section of the U.S. state of Illinois. As of the 2010 census, Shorewood had a population of 24,890 and is the second most populous city in Cook County after Chicago. It is also one of the fastest-growing cities in America, with its population increasing by almost 20 percent each year from 2000 to 2010. The City was founded on May 20th, 1881 by two brothers – George and Isaac Shorewood – who were looking for a site to raise potatoes that would not be affected by flooding caused by the nearby Danville Dam. Shorewood quickly became an important agricultural center due to its location on both sides of Chicago's Lake Michigan shoreline. The first thing that came along when George and Isaac Shorewood arrived in 1881 was theirwhelming lack of success with their potato venture; they had to travel around Illinois finding suitable locations for planting potatoes because all of the land where they wanted them to grow was either too wet or too high elevation for crops to survive. Eventually, they found a place that worked great for growing potatoes but which also happened to be Flooded every other year due to Danville Dam's construction; this spot became known as "The Landing." Shorewood continued growing rapidly thanks largely to three factors:1) The fact that it remained isolated from other parts of Cook County during those early years;2) The fact that it only took about 10 years after landing in town for people hereto start investing in businesses such as grocery stores, lumber yards and machine shops;3) The fact that there wasn't much else out there good enough for people wanting jobs and housing back then

Shorewood is a small town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Shorewood was founded on October 15, 1836 by General David Dixon and his wife Elizabeth Shortridge Dixon and became a village on December 3, 1836. On February 25, 1907 it merged with the neighboring town of Deerfield to form what is now known as Shorewood-Deerfield. The first post office in Shorewood was established in 1837 and served until 1840. On April 17, 1861, four days after Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated as President of the United States and four days after Springfield had become an independent city governed by its own mayor and council, shorewood's first mayor Julius Cohan announced that he would not be seeking re-election because he believed the "citizens have spoken." This represented a significant shift from American custom which saw mayors serve terms twice (or more). Lincoln later appointed Cohan's successor John Nicolay to succeed him as Mayor of Springfield. In 1865–1866 Shorewood lost its bid for Exposition Park due to lack of support from local businesses; however this did not stop shorewood residents from protesting against Expo '65 when it took place in Chicago. In 1870 three hundred fifty acres (1 km²) were donated to shorewood by George Squires who had also given away land in nearby Deerfield Village during that year's merger between those two villages. This new land constituted one block east of present day Frontage Road between Old National Road and Middlebrook Road; today it forms part ofshorewoods downtown core along with many other historically significant buildings such as the clock tower home built for Jens Moller Rasmussen which still stands today across Old National Road from Stonington Hall Schoolhouse which used to be located just inside present day Frontage Road on what once was called Ridge Avenue before moving further east over time; Stonington Hall Schoolhouse still stands today across Old National Road from old frontage road location formerly occupied by house now housing art museum
