National Guard gifts have been a part of the Westmont community for many years. The National Guard has played an important role in our history and culture. Gifts from the National Guard have helped to keep our community healthy, safe, and thriving. The first national guard gift was given to Westmont by General John J. Pershing on November 10th, 1917. General Pershing donated $1,000 to help purchase equipment for the local police department. The donation was a sign of appreciation for the military support that Westmont had received during World War I. Many other national guard gifts have been given to Westmont over the years. These donations include money, items such as rifles and artillery pieces, clothes, food, and even furniture! In 1969, we received a flagpole from the Missouri National Guard in recognition of our town's support during the Vietnam War. This gesture was very significant because it showed thatWestmont supported its military members equally no matter where they were stationed in America! Today, there are numerous organizations that belong to the United States Military Academy (USMA). These organizations give back to their community through donations of time and resources. Some of these organizations include: Alpha Phi Alpha Pi sorority; American Legion; Boys & Girls Clubs of America; Carpenters Union PAC; Chili Peppers Band Foundation; Knights Templar Order Of Malta;; Stilt Walker Circus; The Salvation Army;; VFW Post 9397;; Women’s Auxiliary Air Force/American Forces Europe- Middle East.)

It was redesignated as the "National Guard of Illinois" on October 1, 1907. The National Guard of Illinois served as a military reserve force until it disbanded on May 15, 1959.
Westmont is a small city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,968 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Westmont was settled by German-speaking Americans in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The first post office in Westmont opened on October 11, 1892. The town was named for George Washington Westgarth, an American politician who served as Representative from Illinois's 3rd congressional district from 1895 to 1897 and as Mayor of Westmont from 1903 to 1905. In 1911, William McKinney became the first white man to serve as Mayor of Westmont and he was re-elected twice consecutively until his death in 1925. The community took off after World War II when large numbers of Italians decided to move to the area because of cheap housing prices and job opportunities available in Chicago's then-new suburban areas such as Wheaton and Glenview. In 1978, Westmont became home to North Shore Agribusiness research center which continues today as Northrop Grummanwest point Lab located on about . The National Guard is a department of the United States government that consists of citizen-soldiers who are called up for service in times of peace or emergency. The National Guard was established on July 1, 1903, when President Theodore Roosevelt issued an Executive Order creating the Militia Act of 1903. The National Guard has played a significant role in American history, most notably during World War II when it fought in both the European and Pacific theaters. Today, the National Guard enjoys a highly diverse membership with over 350,000 men and women serving across the United States. National Guardsmen have served in every U.S. state since independence from Great Britain. In states such as New York and Texas, they were used to suppress riots and to provide law enforcement during Reconstruction; while in other states such as California they played an important role in helping to build roads and bridges during the Gold Rush era. The current doctrine behind calling up the National Guard for military purposes dates back to 1917 when President Woodrow Wilson convened a meeting of Governors to discuss protecting civil liberties during wartimewarnings about potential revolutionary activities by Russian Bolsheviks. At that time it was understood that any state could call up its guard if necessary due to events like war or natural disasters like hurricanes or earthquakes. In 1932 President Franklin D Roosevelt signed into law Public Law 96-5 which authorized governors to call up militia units for local defense purposes if there is danger of insurrection or invasion within their borders (this was later expanded). This act helped solidify national guard components throughout many southern states which had been part of cottonTweet South since before America’s founding day – these units would serve until 1962 under Title 10 US Code § 687(a), being exempt from federal taxes as “militia” but subject to state laws governing organization and discipline (Title 18 USC §§ 790 et seq.). Public Law 96-5 also authorized governors to use unit funds “for general expenses incident thereto including supplies necessary for training members thereof at Camp Dodge [in Iowa] or elsewhere” (§ 687(b)). As public servants without pay these soldiers often found themselves using whatever money they could find not just for food but also equipment, uniforms, transportation costs etc… so this appropriation became known as Unit Appropriations (and sometimes still is today) which often went beyond what was actually needed; units were commonly given additional gear and resources simply because their governor felt like he/she needed them too! It wasn’t until after World War II that national guardsmen began seeing combat action thanks largely toPresident Harry S Truman’s decision on September 2nd 1945 – following Japan’s surrender – ordering all U.S.-based military forces withdrawn from Japan except for those assigned specifically To escort POWs back home although this order did not apply unto our own Japanese nationals who had nothing whatsoever do with Emperor Hirohito's surrender! This event led directlyto growth within our military due not only unto Presidents second amendment rights but also thru much research we did on how one nation surrounded by enemies can go through bankruptcy? After years of hearings into how we handled our own internal security issues post 9/11 we now know that lackadaisical policies & procedures allowed Jihadist terrorists onto our soil & into major metropolitan areas (& Iraq) while leaving vast areas unsecured! So much has changed since then & yet little has changed within our Department […] But I am reminded daily why I am here: because my fellow Americans put me here!

Westmont, Illinois was a small town located in Sangamon County, Illinois. The population of Westmont was 1,813 at the 2000 census. It is now a ghost town. The town was founded in 1847 by John Rolfe and his family. The first post office opened in 1848 and the first store was built in 1850. In 1851, the village of Westmont incorporated and it became a city on November 3, 1902. The city was abandoned by 1960 when Interstate 10 bypassed it. In 1984, the remains of one of the original buildings from Westmont were found and reburied at a cemetery near Carbondale. Today there are no remaining structures from the original town except for one building which served as the local high school until it closed in 1967 and been demolished. The history of Westmont can be traced back to 1847 when John Rolfe founded what would become known as Westmont after moving to Sangamon County from Kentucky with his brother Harry Rolfe Sr.. After two years living in Terre Haute, Indiana he decided to move to Sangamon County because he believed that this area had potential for growth due to its rich soil and numerous rivers that could be tapped for water power. He named his new community "Westmont" after Mount Washington - an important peak in American geography - because he felt that its location would give it access to trade routes linking other parts of America with Europe or Asia. - On October 15th1847 John Rolfe sold 640 acres (248 hectares) including lot #2 on present day US Highway 20 east side of river north of center of town site 8 miles southwest (northwest)of then called "Westmount"to James A Whitehead $1450 per acre lot 4 X 40 rods 6 Yds long & wide lots included price $10 per acre
Westmont was a town in Kane County, Illinois. It was established in 1853 and named for John West, an early settler. The first store opened in Westmont in 1854. In 1865, the town became the county seat of Kane County.
