In 1927, Mrs. Vail gifted her final gun to her grandson and namesake Harry Vail III., who had married his niece Mildred Gunthert the previous year (Mrs. Vail’s fifth cousin). Carmel, Indiana is a small city in the U.S. state of Indiana, located on the Carmel River and surrounded by the rural counties of Posey and Monroe. The population was 8,836 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as a Methodist mission in 1834, with about seventy residents. The first post office opened in 1835, and the first school was founded in 1837. The Methodist Church—a brick building on Main Street—was dedicated on December 12, 1840. In 1854–55, a Roman Catholic church was built south of town on what is now State Road 63; it served as the community's only facility until 1957 when an addition to Carmel High School added junior high and high school students. In 1881, people within just a few miles of Carmel started to emigrate to this new area – they called themselves "The Newcomers." By 1890 there were over 1,000 people living in Carmel proper – some sixty percent of whom were immigrants from Europe or other parts of Asia Minor (Turkey). Most arrived through railroads into northwest Indiana (now southeastern Michigan), where work opportunities had become available after railway companies developed new lines connecting Chicago with points eastward along the Great Lakes region. In 1915-16 local entrepreneur Wm Snyman donated land for what became known as "The Square" development near downtown; this included one hundred acres (400ha) near today's intersection of State Road 63 and Washington Street/Utopia Avenue NW (the square also includes two blocks north of that at 601 E Washington St.). Many businesses located around this square - including Hennepin County Courthouse Annexe - continue to operate to this day albeit under different names or with slightly different boundaries: Crowne Plaza Aurora North / South Resort & Casino; FirstMerit Bank Building; Starburst Development Company LLC; Trump International Golf Links & Spa Resort.; etc., among others! A special mall called Gateway Mall opened adjacent to it in 1987 which attracted heavy shopping traffic from surrounding towns such as Mishawaka and Wayne County while still retaining most core retail operations across all levels including department stores Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Co., Macy's Inc., Kohl's Department Store Group et al.. With its innovative design featuringI-beam ceilings and exposed metal framing throughout -Gateway Mall quickly became an iconic shopping center across much Northeast Indiana...Gateway Mall closed its doors for good in 2000 but has been reborn several times since then thru various concepts including Regency Villas / Gateway Village Place LLC ; First American Financial Center ; Midtown ShoppingTown USA ; RenaissanceVillage LLC .... Today Gateway Village Place continues to offer unique retail experiences such as live music performances during certain hours nightly from Local artists beginning Fridays at 9pm through Sunday morning at 5am.... Interstate 65 running parallel adjacent provides easy access both into town fronnx side w/ Walmart Supercenter/Mallandale Rd./State road 63 entrace via exit 309A which leads directly out onto I 65 opposite liquor store Walgreens Drugs Inc.......Today there are no active malls within 2 miles either side anymore although making occasional appearances thru various concepts

Carmel, Indiana is a small town in the southern part of Indiana. The population was 5,494 at the 2010 census. It is located in Kosciusko County. The first settlers to Carmel were three men from Kentucky who came overland in 1824. They named their new settlement after a small mountain in Italy: Carmelita Peak. In 1829, two brothers from Ohio started a general store here and soon other businesses followed suit. Business grew quickly because of the good transportation options available here - railroads brought goods and people to Carmel from all around the country. One of the most important aspects of early Carmel's growth was its status as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Many abolitionists fleeing slavery used this stop as an escape route for several months before making their way north to Canada or England. A number of high-profile people have lived or worked in Carmel including Ulysses S Grant, Abraham Lincoln, JT LeRoy Jones Jr., and Marvin Gaye.
Carmel is a city in and the county seat of Carmel County, Indiana, United States. The population was 12,752 at the 2010 census. It is the second largest city in Indiana after Indianapolis. The first Europeans to visit Carmel were French traders in 1692. The area now known as Carmel was part of the Northwest Territory founded by France in 1783. In 1802, the 3rd Viscount Byron purchased land from David Sassoon for $5,000 and named it Carmel Township. On July 1, 1853, Carmel became a village under the name of "Carmel". It had a population of 375 when it incorporated as a town on December 14, 1865. In 1907–08 artist Edward Hopper moved to Carmel from New York City and began painting there with his wife Louise Bourgeois. He continued to live there until his death in 1966; his widow lived until she died in 2009. On May 21, 1927 President Calvin Coolidge dedicated an airfield located east of town on what is now US-12 north of Interstate 465 between Carmel and Lafayette Roads. This field served as homeport for American Airlines until its sale to IATA on October 15, 1996 following bankruptcy proceedings by American Airlines parent company American Express Corporation (now Delta Air Lines). It has been proposed that this field be renamed Dreamland Airport due to its role as one half of an airport complex planned by developer Richard Lissauer which would include an amusement park modeled after Flamingo Casino Resort Las Vegas located adjacent to the airstrip serving approximately 10 million passengers per year potential tenants who would use it primarily for business aviation purposes only; however no decisions have yet been made about whether or not this proposal will become reality
