Crawfordsville, Indiana is a small town in Johnson County, Indiana. It was founded in 1817 and named for General John Crawfords, who served as an officer in the U.S. Army during the War of 1812. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. In 1862, Crawfordsville became part of Vincennes,Indiana after that city was burned by Union troops. The town's economy changed when the Indiana Canal was built through its area in the late 1800s and early 1900s. This made it possible to bring goods and people together from far away and allowed for businesses to be built throughout the town center. Today, there are several restaurants and coffee shops located throughout downtown Crawfordsville, as well as a library which serves as a haven for local residents.

Crawfordsville is a small town in Harrison County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,502 at the 2010 census. Crawfordsville was founded in 1827 and named for Wm. Crawford, an early settler. The first post office in Crawfordsville was established on December 12, 1829. In 1830, the first church was built in the town and named First Methodist Episcopal Church. A school had been organized in 1828 but closed due to financial difficulties. A new school building was erected in 1835 and named Islamia School of Industry and Commerce. It served as a high school until 1957 when it became Crawfordsville Community College. A hotel called The White Hare was built around 1888 and served as a stop for stagecoaches until it burned down in 1915; it reopened as the Crawford Hotel about 1925-1926. In 1901, the Harrison County Courthouse opened with a $10,000 gift from Mrs.. Jno.. Covington of Cincinnati; it served as the county courthouse until 1987 when it replaced the old courthouse which had been destroyed by fire years earlier. The original courthouse also housed several local businesses including an ammunition store and blacksmith shop which were destroyed by fire on October 7th, 1889; they reopened on October 8th after being rebuilt using parts from other buildings located within minutes of their original destruction date. Crawfordsville has several restaurants including two pizzerias (the Pizzeria Paradiso restaurant and Pizza Hut), two fast food places (Wendy's hamburger restaurant and Arby's bacon den), one cake decorating business (Linda's Bakery), one barber shop (Sheffield Barber Shop), one Texaco gas station/convenience store (Texaco gas station #2) along with several other local businesses including: three grocery stores - Kroger supermarket #1-#4; three hardware stores - Hardware Store #1-#3; four tire dealers - Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Ford Tires Co.; five convenience stores - Circle K convenience store #1-#5; six schools - Central High School #1-#8; nine churches - First Methodist Episcopal Church (#1); Second Presbyterian Church (#2); Baptist Church of America congregation (#3); American Legion Post 990 (#4); Crawfordsville Independent School Districts One through Five schools allDistricts are public schools CrawfordsVILLE INDIANA HISTORICAL SOCIETY
