Dyer, Indiana is a small town located in the northwest corner of the state of Indiana. The population was 9,715 at the 2010 census. The name "Dyer" is derived from an Indian word meaning "fertile ground." Dyer was founded by John Dyer in 1810. The first post office was established in Dyer on October 10, 1811. Dyer became a village on December 15, 1907. With its growth and development over time, Dyer has experienced many changes. In 1960, it became a city and currently has a population of approximately 36,000 people. The history of Dyer begins with John Dyer who moved to this area in 1810 and started a small grocery store called the Storey & Company near present day Weldon Avenue and US-21W. This store would later become known as the Merchants Exchange which would continue to operate until 1912 when it merged with the JB Ware company to form JB Wares Incorporated (later known as Sears). In that year John's son George also opened his own grocery store across US-21W from his father's store and it would be called The George Washington Market until 1914 when it merged with James Bargelli’s General Mercantile Store to form JBG Markets Incorporated (later known as Kmart). In 1916 JBG Markets merged with Sprague’s Department Stores Company which had purchased Harrods department stores in 1915 for $140 million dollars making Sprague America’s second largest retailer after Macy’s Corporation. By 1932 Sprague’s had replaced Kmart as America’s leading department store chain with two main locations – one in New York City and one in Chicago – each holding over 1 million customers per week! In 1960 Dyers Joined forces wit adjoining cities of Corydon and Waterloo to form what is now known as Corydon-Waterloo Township!

Its history can be traced back to 1790, when the United States Congress created an agency called the Revenue Cutter Service to help prevent smuggling and treasure-hunting on America’s east coast. In 1853, the Coast Guard was made an independent branch of the Department of Homeland Security. The first Coast Guardsmen were sworn in at Fort Point on Long Island on December 4, 1853. In 1976, President Gerald Ford authorized the creation of a National Park Reserve along the Eastern seaboard to protect coastal communities from pollution and debris generated by offshore oil drilling and other development activities. This park would become one of America’s most popular tourist destinations and is now home to more than 100 miles (160 kilometers) of coastline that are protected by law or resource management designation. Today, there are more than 7,000 uniformed members assigned to 43 detachments across 26 states who work together 24/7 to keep our seas clean and provide safe passage for both passengers and cargo. Dyer, Indiana is a town in and the county seat of Porter County, Indiana, United States. The population was 3,542 at the 2010 census. Dyer was founded in 1827 as a log cabin settlement by John Dyer. It grew to become a small community with 2,000 residents by the late 19th century. In 1925, Dyer became an incorporated village and held its first election that year. In 1960, it merged with neighboring unincorporated communities of Carbondale and Beech Grove to form what is now known as Porter County. Dyer's founding story begins in 1827 when John Dyer sold his land to James Hurd for $4 per acre (1/8th of a dollar per mile). Hurd erected a cabin on the site and named it "Dyer". The town grew rapidly due to the success of its logging operations which began in earnest in 1829. By 1830, logs were being transported downriver from nearby Carbondale every day. The town had reached 584 people by 1840 while still boasting only 4 cabins and 40 members of the local militia! The early days of Dyers were quite difficult; during construction season there were often simply not enough workers available to finish projects on time or at all! However, over time this difficulty turned into one of the town's most valuable assets – through hard work and perseverance everyone quickly assimilated into their new surroundings and soon developed strong friendships within their community - something that has been preserved even today. From its humble beginnings as a log cabin settlement John Dyer built up what is now one of Porter County’s most notable statistical areas –[the] Town [of] Dyers saw rapid growth thanks largely to its timber industry which functioned until around 1920." In 1925 when it merged with Carbondale and Beech Grove (unincorporated communities) it had 2 thousand residents but by 1960 had grown to 10 thousand residents making it one of Pocatello’s fastest growing micropolitan areas throughout much of the 20th century." Today there are more than 30 businesses located within walking distance of each other including several Mallards Hotels which have seen current expansions totaling almost 100% since 2000!"
Dyer was founded in 1821 by James Dyer. The town was named after General David Dixon, who helped to drive the Shawnee out of Indiana in the early 1800s. The first post office was established in Dyer in 1827. In 1865, the town became a city and remains so today.
