It was called the “Hatton Coffee Shop” and sold quality espresso drinks and Turkish cigarettes. John Hatton continued to operate his business until his death in 1951. His son, Harry, took over the business after his father’s death. The Dunnings started producing quality gourmet coffee until they closed their store in 1984. Today, there are several prominent roasters operating within Evansville: Hario Coffee Company (owned by Starbucks), Blue Bottle Coffee Company (owned by Amazon) and Four Barrel Coffee Company (owned by Peet’s). Each company produces unique flavors and styles of espresso drinks that set them apart from other shops within the city limits. There are many coffee-related events and stories that took place in Evansville, Indiana over the years. Some of the most famous coffee moments include: In 1894, Edwin Starr set up his first roastery in Evansville. The beans were ground by hand and roasted on a small scale before being sold to local businesses and individuals. In 1916, Harry Smith opened his own coffee shop in town. This was the first espresso machine in the area and it was also the first time people could purchase coffee from a commercial source. In 1951, Bob Henson opened The Coffee House, which is now known as one of Evansville's most popular tourist destinations. This store made use of electric start machines for its roasts and servedotes. During this time, Evansville became known as "The birthplace of espresso." In 1957, Paddy Lalonde reopened The Coffee House after purchasing it from Henson. This establishment continued to serve espresso until 1996 when it closed due to financial issues.
Evansville is a city in and the county seat of Vanderburgh County, Indiana, United States. The population was 923 at the 2010 census. Evansville is known for its Midwestern culture and history, as well as its three major industries: agriculture, manufacturing, and transportation. Evansville also has a significant tourist industry. The first Europeans to visit Evansville were French traders who passed through in 1679. They named the settlement "Vincennes" after François Vincennes, captain of the French force that captured Fort Duquesne on October 14, 1679. In 1702, General Washington's army destroyed Fort Duquesne near present-day downtown Evansville while marching south to take New Orleans from France. The town was platted in 1792 by Nicholas Sorrells as part of an area called "New Providence Township." It became one of the original ten townships of Vanderburgh County when it was organized on March 12, 1821. During World War I, Evansville served as a military depot for munitions shipped downriver from Muncie and Indianapolis. After the war ended in 1918, many businesses closed because of high taxes levied by local authorities to fund public works projects such as new streetlights and sewers. However, several small businesses reopened during this time including Jiffy Lube (later Jiffy Cleanout) and Subway sandwich restaurants which have continued operation since then. In 1965–1966 ground was broken for what would be the world's largest indoor sports arena when the now defunct American Basketball Association (ABA) created a team in Evansville called the Pacers; however NBA basketball never reached full capacity due to construction delays caused by hosting multiple professional soccer teams simultaneously at nearby Knobles Stadium while also building other sports venues in neighboring communities such as Lafayette (now Indy Eleven), North Olmsted (now Cleveland Cavaliers), and Goshen (now Erie BayHawks). In 1997–1998 David Bornstein opened Avanti Fine Italian Food located on Main Street inside what is now Zions Banknorth Plaza; this became one of first indoor Mexican restaurants internationally with over two dozen locations across North America serving over 50 million customers annually according to company lore throughout its long history which began with Bornstein’s opening night commemoration dinner at Zions Banknorth Plaza featuring Chef Roberto Clemente from Mexico City’s La Casa de la Presa restaurant – all under one roof! Today's downtown core contains nearly 100 buildings dating back to 1922 when First National Bank moved into its current location on Depot Street between First Avenue South and US-31/36th Street originally occupied by Cement Works facilities before being demolished for parking garage use adjacent to Purdue University's Witte School of Business Administration & Entrepreneurship - making it one Stop Shopping!, more than just an entertainment district anchored by two grand hotels; Government Center Mall anchors much larger anchor stores including Sears Holdings Inc., Macy's Co., JBL Mfg., Kohl's Corp., Fifth Third Bankshares NAZA CORPORATION - providing almost every type of retail store you can think Of within close proximity along with numerous smaller convenience stores chains like Timothy'S Cheese Shoppes®, Kroger Super Markets®, Albertsons Pharmacy®, Menards grocery stores(), Drugstores featured prominently (* denotes store closing today*)

In 1853, the first café opened in Paris, and within 5 years all other European cities had their own coffeehouses. The first Starbucks opened in Seattle, Washington in 1982. Today there are over 100 different cafes throughout the world serving coffee made with quality beans from around the globe.
There is no one definitive history of gourmet coffee. However, some important milestones include the creation of roasting methods that allow for higher-quality coffee beans to be enjoyed fresh or roasted in aformer manner, as well as the development of cafes and restaurants dedicated to sourcing only the best quality beans.
Evansville is located in the central region of Indiana, about 15 miles west of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The town was founded by William Evans and his wife Nancy on November 14, 1825, as a small village named Westville. The name was changed to Evansville in 1827 after William's brother-in-law, James Evans. The original settlers were farmers and their families who came from Virginia and Maryland. By 1830, the population had increased to 100 people and the town was incorporated as a city on February 17, 1833. The early years of Evansville were difficult because of the harsh winters and low economic conditions. But with hard work and dedication, the citizens built an excellent community that today provides essential services such as education, health care, business opportunities and cultural attractions for residents in both rural and urban areas. One important event that helped shape Evansville's future was its role in helping form Indiana's first state legislature. On January 3, 1837, Evansville became one of 12 towns in Indiana which agreed to become part of what would be called the "Indiana Territory". This territory included all of present-day Indiana except for land east of the Great Lakes which remained under British control until 1800. In order to ensure that these new residents would have access to government services and be able to participate fully in American life, Evansville elected its first city councilmember on March 3rd, 1837. Despite these challenges during its earliest years, Evansville grew steadily into a thriving community with a strong economy based on agriculture and manufacturing. Over time it has become one of Hoosier country's largest cities with over 150 businesses operating within its boundaries alone! Evansville was founded on the site of present-day Evansville in 1834 by James K. Polk and his brothers. The city was named after General Daniel Boone, who had settled in the area in 1785. The first post office in Evansville was established in 1835. In 1865, the town became a village when it amalgamated with nearby Clearwater Township. The city's population reached 100,000 in 1970. It lost its status as a municipality due to annexations by other townships during the early 21st century.
