Franklin, Indiana was founded in 1824 by three immigrants from Germany – Johann Gottlieb Friedrich Schrader, Johann August Schering and Wilhelm Hülsenbach. The first coffeehouses were opened in the early 1800s, and the industry grew rapidly during the 1800s and into the 19th century. By 1827, there were more than 30 coffeehouses in Franklin. The late 1800s saw an increase in coffee production due to improved methods of roasting beans and processing them. In 1902, a group of businessmen purchased the business of John Fenton at 6 North Division Street from his brother-in-law Samuel French. They renamed it Koffee Klatch (later Koffee Klatch Coffee Co.) and began producing quality coffee with their own roasting process. In 1912, they opened a second store on South State Street. In 1915, they opened their third store on West Washington Boulevard in Indianapolis. This store was eventually sold to Starbucks Corporation in 2002 and remains open today as part of that company's Indianapolis campus location
Franklin is a small town in Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. It is the seat of Hendricks County government and the population was 7,755 at the 2010 census. The Franklin School District serves most of the town. The first settler in Franklin was John White. He built a cabin on the banks of the Menominee River in 1824. The original Post Office was established in 1827, and remains open today as part of the Franklin-Hendricks County Courthouse Annex Museum Complex. On July 4th, 1954, Franklin became one of only two communities in the US to celebrate its centennial with an outdoor parade and fireworks display. In 1980, land adjacent to downtown Franklin was donated by local businessman Eugene Ahern for use as a public park named after his late wife Evelyn Ahern Grant Hinsdale (1888-1976). Today central business district activity takes place along Oneida Street just east of I-94 which leads into town from Interstate 635 south.
