Goshen is known for its agricultural products and pharmaceuticals industries. The first permanent European settlers arrived in Goshen in 1814 when Christopher Claiborne arrived with his family from New York City. In 1838, the town was organized as a borough by the Indiana General Assembly. The borough was dissolved on June 17, 1839, and its land became part of Porter County. On July 1, 1871, Goshen incorporated as a city under the name of "Goshene". The city's economy has been based largely on agriculture since it was founded. Today, Goshene's primary industry is providing services to its residents such as health care and public works. A number of businesses have also arisen around this sector including medical offices and pharmacies; a grocery store called The Green Giant; and an insurance company that provides liability coverage to farmers throughout Ohio and Indiana

Goshen is a town in Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,471 at the 2010 census. Goshen was founded in 1822 by Jacob Goshen and his wife Rachel. It became a city in 1896. The first permanent settler in what would become Goshen was David Capps who arrived from Wales on July 6, 1822, with his family and forty acres of land. He named the community after himself and his sister-in-law Rachel Potter (Potion). On November 10, 1824, three men from Pennsylvania – Isaac Norris, Samuel Morse and James Cook – came to Goshen for the purpose of purchasing some land for themselves but soon realized that there were not enough people to make a good farming community so they turned around and left without taking any land. They did however leave behind a letter which said "Goshen will stand or fall by itself" This statement has stuck with the community ever since as they have always been willing to help one another out when it comes to anything big or small. In 1827 Samuel Morse built the first post office in Goshen while still living in Philadelphia. The town grew quickly thereafter due to its location next to two major water crossings - the White River and Wabash River - as well as its access to railroad lines which made it an ideal place to build businesses. By 1830 there were twentyfive businesses operating in Goshen including four banks, four carriages shops and six tanneries along with several churches including First Baptist Church (founded December 5, 1830), Methodism Episcopal Church (March 15th), Presbyterian Church (October 6th) and CongregationalistChurch (November 11th). In 1836 John Wilson became the first white man born within reach of Goshan when he moved into Lot 8 on White River Road from Delaware Township where he had settled earlier that year with his brother Amos Wilson On February 14th1836 Isaac Norris patented a piece of land between White River Road east of present day Eveleigh Drive and Wabash River across from lot 7 on Hennepin County line which would later be known as North Meridian Street; this patent allowed him to build what is now called North Union Station which served as the junction between Indianapolis & Chicago Railroad Lines before becoming part of I&C RR later renamed US 10/MRR Indiana's State Fairgrounds were located just outside of Goshene until 1946 when they were relocated into nearby Noblesville because ditches had been dug around them creating anunswered question about their long term future In 1862 John Wilson sold all his rights & interest in North Union Station back to I&C RR Company for $3,- giving rise theretofore existing speculation that I&C might reuse/develop North Union Station; no such event occurred however because I&C instead decided against it due largelyto financial reasons In 1865 I&C bought back all rights & interests therein from Mr Frederick Aarschwandt for $50,- thus ending any hopes anyone may have had harboring notions thereof . As spelled out previously: "I cashed my check & went home" !! That's right folks! After years of anticipation finally old #39 reality set upon us once again...theSycamore Electric Cooperative reopened shop on May 17 1973 inside current day South Union station after being closed for several years prior!!! All hail anew Beginnings!!
Goshen was founded in 1814 by Nicholas Goshen, a Quaker. The town site was donated by John Morse. It became an incorporated town in 1846. Goshen is the seat of Goshen Township and the only municipality in Indiana without a county government.
