The Greensburg,Indiana coffee community has been around since the mid 1800s. The first reported brewing and roasting of coffee in Greensburg was in 1825. The town's first grocery store was established in 1827. In 1850, a gristmill was built and used to grind corn for local farmers. The first known espresso machine in Greensburg was installed in 1916.
Greensburg is a town located in Kosciuszko County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from the green grass near its location on the banks of the White River. The first settler in Greensburg was David Green who arrived in 1814. By 1830, there were six stores and seventy-eight residents living in Greensburg. In 1834, George Witte came to Greensburg with his family and built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. Witte was an early settler who helped contribute to the growth of Greensburg by trading goods and services with other Indians and settlers alike. In 1846, John Haggerty became the first resident of Greensburg when he moved from Lafayette (then called "Hagerville"). Haggerty built a new house on Second Street which served as his home until his death in 1903. After Haggerty's death, wife Anna started Keeping House for Mrs. John Haggerty which continued until her retirement in 1951; this event is stillcelebrated by locals as "The Day Mrs. Haggerty Died." In 1865, another pioneer named Nathan Bowers made a trip across country and stopped at Greensburg while on his way back east; Bowers donated land to make way for what is now Scenic Drive (later renamed US 301). On December 5th, 1886, three men - Hiram Shemalczyk, Abram Lazarus and Jacob Kistiakowsky - set out from Baltimore via Louisville into Indiana Territory to purchase 640 acres (2 km²) of land between present-day Posey Boulevard and US-31 north of wherepresent day Scenic Drive meets US-31/White River Bridge; they named their tract "Mt Pleasant" after one of their meeting places back home on Maryland's Eastern Shore - Mt Pleasant Manor also known as Potomac Township during that time period! Today's portion of Mount Pleasant contains most notably Gadsden Mall (~8 miles (-13 km)) southwest of downtown Greensburg across I-465 & exit 190A off I-71 just past milepost marker 281! What followed next saw yet another wave of settlers arrive – this time led by Drury Gardner – arriving soon after Kistiakowsky’s purchase starting moving their families northward into what would become known today as southern Kosciuszko County area including all or part of current Lawrence Township even though they had never set foot inside those boundaries before! They began naming streets within their acheived territory such as “Drury Streets” after themselves! For years afterwards some folks still refer to that area north & west side Pioneer Road between White River bridge & Lawrenceville Rd., currently part Jackson Township but then it was also often called “Gardner Addition” during those early days because pretty much everyone born thereduring that era got their start working for either Drury Gardner himself or one or more associated members/family members eventually did too! Eventually through hard work by many individuals over many years local citizens were able to build up such things as schools, churches & businesses within our community while still remaining closely knit together like brothers & sisters do here today!
