Hobart, Indiana is a city in and the county seat of Tipton County, Indiana. The population was 15,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded in 1824 by fur traders from Canada. The first post office in Hobart was established in 1827. The area that now Hobart was originally part of the Shawnee Nation located east of present-day Lafayette and west of Terre Haute. In 1824, a group of Canadian fur traders led by Isaac Norris explored what became Tipton County after leaving Fort Wayne,Indiana for what would become Indianapolis. They named their new settlement "Hobart" after Sir John Franklin's HMS "Eagle". In 1834, President Andrew Johnson approved a bill designating Tipton County as one of five counties within the newly formed state of Indiana as a means to increase white settlement in central Indiana and to encourage others to enter into farming and cotton production. This act increased local agricultural production that helped contribute to the growth of downtown Hobart during its early years. The first courthouse in town was built on Main Street between Second and Third Streets in 1835 by Judge Nathaniel Hawthorne along with other courthouse buildings erected during this time including the current Courthouse Annex on Fourth Street which served as both courthouse and municipal building until 1978 when it burned down rendering it unusable for judicial proceedings In 1865–66 Union troops under General Don Carlos Buell attacked Vincennes College near Terre Haute resulting in over 100 casualties with many officers killed or captured including General Buell who had initially been seeking refuge at Vincennes before being driven out across country

Hobart, Indiana is a city in and the county seat of Hancock County, Indiana, United States. The population was 14,055 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest city in Hancock County and one of the smallest counties in Indiana. The first European to visit Hobart was Frenchman René-Jacques Marquette on May 10, 1679. He named it "Portage du Sac" ( Gateway to the Sacred). The first permanent settler in Hobart was David Morphy who arrived on July 2, 1802. Morphy's brother-in-law John Willoughby founded a small town near present day Lafayette and named it after him, Willoughbystown. On December 12th of that year, James Kapp listed Hobart on his map as a village with a post office but no buildings or people visible. By 1800 there were over 100 settlers living in what became Hobart Township by 1810. In 1830 Henry Clay organized for this township five farmers into an alluminum company that he called the "Hancock Company". In 1840–41 General Harrison invaded Indian Territory and burned much of what remained of Fort Dearborn including most of present day downtown Hobart; however some citizens managed to rebuild and HCB erected several stores within weeks In 1856 HCB erected their second store which still stands today along North Second Street between Washington Avenue & First Street; during this time HCB also built two homes for themselves one being lot #5 east side [now north side] Block House No 774 on Second Street just south of Third Road extending from Meridian Avenue northeast across Third Road where it meets Fourth Avenue On March 3rd 1860 when school started up again in town after a summer break Kapp reorganized township boundaries with new lots entering onto original plat now Lots 1 thru 5 east side Blocks 25 thru 29 old section 20 [northwest corner] Of Rte 4 blocks 10 through 13 west sideOf Rte 3 now part of block number 21 For more than 50 years until annexation by Indianapolis Hoatson Township Number One was considered to be north Side while sides were: east Side (west Side) - Caldwellsville area – Masonic Lodge/First Presbyterian Church – Griggs Mill Play ground/general store – three blacksmith shops run by Gentry Bros./Wright Brothers forge/carpenter shop East Side (Now southSide) - Greenwood Cemetery
