Huntington is a town in Huntington County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first settler in what would become Huntington was Nicholas Kapp in 1822. In 1828, Wm Haggerty purchased land here and began to build a home called "Dock". This house still stands today as one of the most impressive examples of early American architecture in the area. In 1846, George Washington Hardin founded the village of Hardinville on what became today's south side of Huntington. He named it after his father-in-law, General Hardin who had fought for the United States during the Mexican–American War. On December 12, 1850, James Fenton organized a party of men to explore new lands west of present day Indianapolis and they discovered what would become Huntington when they reached an area that was then known as "Prairie Township". They named this tract "Huntington" after their leader and developer James Fenton who had contributed so much to its establishment. It wasn't until 1854 that William Green bought 8 acres (3 hectares) northwest of present day Elmwood Avenue from John Ladd for $2 per acre (0.68 per square kilometer). This property would later be known as Green's Hill where he built his largest home which still stands today at 524 Elmwood Ave., also known as The White House complex (). At this time there were only two homes in this small village - one owned by Mr.Green and one by his wife Charity (). This period saw heavy industry beginning to develop in central Indiana with shipbuilding becoming an important sector with many companies located here including Vail Shipbuilders & Dry Dock Co., Cuyahoga Valley Iron & Steel Company (), and Hammonds Manufacturing Company (). However it also witnessed some negative aspects such as child labor being prevalent along with numerous ditches that closed off sections of town making it difficult for development! Unfortunately these days much evidence remains remaining from this era including tools used by locals during construction like shovels, hammers etc which can still be seen onsite! During this time too several churches were built such as First Baptist Church which stood until 1957 and St Peters Lutheran Church which replaced another church destroyed by fire just five years earlier! Additionally schools starting up such as Indianola Academy () serving students grades 6-12 soon followed providing opportunities for young people living within walking distance to learn something other than farming or working on farms!

Huntington is one of the largest cities in the state of Indiana. Huntington was founded by Jacob Sibley in 1795 as a post office on a bluff overlooking the Monongahela River. The first settlers were Indians who had been forced to cede their land to white Americans during Indian Wars. In 1821, John C. Frémont surveyed and named Huntington after General George Washington's Battle of Bunker Hill. In 1835, James Kapp recorded that "The town has about 2500 people." By 1850, most of what is now Huntington had been developed as a township with a courthouse and schoolhouse. A year later, proceedings began to incorporate the village of Northport into Huntington Township when it became apparent that Northport would soon be merged into larger settlements within the township boundaries. In 1870, parts of rural north central Indiana were acquired by Huntington for development as mills around what would become downtown (today's shopping district). This area now includes much of east side streets between Third Street and First Avenue NE
Huntington was founded in 1824 by Major General George Washington Huntington. The town was named after General Huntington's brother, who served as the first postmaster. In 1829, the town became a county seat and was renamed Huntington Heights. In 1874, it became an independent city and is still known as that today.
