The Kendallville Army Post Office is one of the oldest in Indiana. It was established on October 25, 1846 by Colonel John B. Kendall and soon became a force for military purposes in the area. The post office served as a base of operations for troops during the Indian War and also during the Civil War. In 1865, the post office was renamed Fort Harrison after General George Muster, Commander of Union Forces at Vincennes. The fort was destroyed by fire in 1872 but parts were rebuilt and continued to serve as an army post until it closed in 1907. Today, there is still a portion of Fort Harrison remaining which is used as a museum and visitor center for the city of Kendallville. In addition to its role as an army post, Fort Harrison also played a significant role in local history with its donation of land to the city which helped make it possible to build what is now downtown Kendallville.

The Kendallville regiment was organized in 1812 and fought at the Battle of Fort Delaware. The regiment served in the War of 1812 and was disbanded in 1815.
Kendallville is a small, unassuming town in northwestern Indiana. It is the seat of Kendall County and was founded in 1836 by Daniel Kendall, a surveyor and planter. The town has since grown to become a major agricultural center, with production of corn, soybeans, cotton, potatoes, apples, eggs, cheese and other crops. Today it retains its rural character with modest housing developments measuring about one-half mile wide and one-quarter mile long. The community was once famous for its pork product; produce from the town was often sold as " Kendallville Pork" or "Daniel Kendall's Pork." Today much of the local economy relies on tourism; during the year 2000 alone there were over 100 events hosted in Kendallville. In addition to its economic importance the community also contains several historically significant sites: the Community House which served as both county courthouse and meeting house from 1836 until 1901 and now houses The Kendallville Historical Museum; Daniel Kendall's farmstead where he built his home in 1835; and nearby Gnadenhutten Mountain which offers excellent views of downtown Indianapolis.

Kendallville is a small town in southwestern Indiana, United States. The population was 5,430 at the 2010 census. It is part of theTerre Haute,IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kendallville was founded in 1851 by settlers from Illinois and has been inhabited since then by Native Americans and European-American settlers. In 1865, Kendallville became the seat of government for Terre Haute County when it was created from parts of Vigo and Posey counties. The town's growth came during the late 19th century as a result of its location on the Chicago, Indianapolis and Louisville Railroad which connected these markets with Indiana through Terre Haute. Today, Kendallville is known for its wide variety of shops, restaurants and nightlife options as well as its rich history.
Kendallville was founded in 1814 by the Potawatomi tribe. The town grew rapidly and by 1829 it had a population of 3,000 people. Kendallville became an important center for grain production and saw business growth in essential industries such as clothiers, brewers, and lumberjacks. In 1848 the US government took over responsibility for Indian Territory and Kendallville fell within the new United States Indian Territory. However, due to economic development in nearby Indianapolis, Kendallville experienced rapid growth and increasing social prominence until its annexation into the city of Indianapolis in 1896.
