The Indiana National Guard was organized on July 16, 1892. The first unit to be mobilized was the 143rd Infantry Regiment. From that moment until World War I, the Guard was always a part of the state militia. During World War I, the Guard served in various capacities including artillery, cavalry and infantry units. Following World War I, the Guards were reorganized into divisions under brigade command and demobilized on May 1st, 1919. The State of Indiana activated its own National Guard on January 17th, 1922 when it became necessary due to the American Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) being deployed in Logansport. At this time there were 10 battalions with a strength of 2200 men each. The first regiment commanders were Colonel John Wickenheiser (1stLight Cavalry), Colonel Alvin Burt (2nd Light Cavalry) and Major General Clifton Fenton (5th Infantry Division). On December 11th of that year all battalions except one were mustered out at Camp Porter near Hammondsville and all remaining soldiers left for home by Christmas eve 1923. On January 9th 1924 an order from President Calvin Coolidge read “There is now no need for any more NationalGuard troops in Logansport” which ended service with these units within a matter of months as they had been taxed too heavily during peacetime years previously
Logansport,Indiana is a city located in Logansport County, Indiana. The population was 37,856 at the 2010 census. It is the economic and cultural center of Logansport County. The city lies on the Ohio River and consists of two areas: the downtown area with its many businesses and shops, and the surrounding rural area which includes small villages and farms. The first inhabitants of Logansport were French fur traders who arrived in 1779. By 1810, English settlers had established a trading post near present-day Logansport. In 1815, General Henry Dearborn founded what is now known as Dearborn State University here inLOGANSPORT COUNTY residents voted to join the United States in 1821 as part of the wave of pro-west sentiment that swept over America after Britain's defeat at Trafalgar. The city began rapid growth following its incorporation as a town in 1824 when it became an important transportation hub on the then new Erie Canal system linking Toledo, Ohio to Indianapolis (now Indianapolis). Over time, Logansport developed into one of America's leading industrial cities – home to some of the country's most famous brands such as Ford Motor Company and JBL Corporation – while also becoming known for its art scene and nightlife. In recent years, however, loggers'dependent economy has begun to rebound; aided by a growing number of logging jobs within NRA National Forest property adjoining Logansport’s borders
The National Guard has a long and varied history, dating back to the Revolutionary War. The National Guard was first organized in 1792 as short-lived militias to support the British military efforts in North America. After the end of the Revolution, Congress created the Continental Army, which made use of militia organizations across America. In 1795, Congress passed an act that established a system for organizing national guard troops into brigades under state command. The brigades were eventually disbanded in 1802, but they continued to be used by Congress as separate units until their disbandment in 1902. After independence was gained, President George Washington ordered all states to maintain 1 million militiamen within their borders as a reserve force for future emergencies. This order led to the creation of several provisional armies including “the Second Continental Army” and “the Third Continental Army” which served briefly before being disbanded. However, these armies were not truly national Guards because they did not have full state authority or resources, only regional authority/resources. In 1799–1800, Rhode Island raised its own regiment of militia called “The Providence Regiment” under Colonel Robert Ransom (1749–1827). This regiment became part of the Connecticut Volunteer Militia when that state joined the Union in 1812 and remained so through most of Reconstruction following Reconstruction Amendments (1868) To provide some continuity between Republican and Democratic administrations during this time period there was also establishment of both State National Guard Armies (SNGA) and Territorial National Guard Armies (TNGA). National Guardsmen who served during World War I are often referred to as “First World War Veterans” since they were actually mobilized from other states rather than from each individual's home state or Duchy/Province like many soldiers recruited during World War II and later eras . The First World War Veterans Act 1917 authorized voluntary enlistment by men over 21 years old with no discharge required after two years service at least five days per week without leave or Sundays off except for family holidays; however these provisions did not take effect until 1919 . Enlistment began on October 14th 1917 with 531 men from 29 states . On November 8th 1917 there was an increase in recruits due to increased recruitment posters distributed throughout America urging men not only to join but also help finance war expenses through subscriptions to Patriotic magazines such as American [Citizen] On December 3rd 1917 more than 9000 New York City residents enlisted into three regiments totaling 11000 personnel serving honorably until their call-up ended on January 9th 1918 due to government restrictions against private volunteerism During World War I approximately 2% of all US military deaths occurred while serving with either army corps or stalwart volunteers

In 1859, loganstown mill began production with exports to Great Britain becoming very popular due to cheap rates imposed by those countries' government shipsyards at that time. In 1865 lumber manufacturing became an important part of local economy with many mills opening up throughout the years including Wm Lumber Company (later Wabash Lumber Company) until it merged into Sears Roebuck & Co in 1978 In 1893 C&O Railroad extended its line throughLogansports edge making it possible for people who worked along its tracks to live and purchase goods they needed close at hand without ever having to leave their homes or destination .
