In 1795, the French began trading with the Potawatomi Nation and by 1800, they had started smuggling coffee from Brazil to France. By 1824, Dutch traders were also importing coffee to Indiana. In 1830, Nicholas Perot founded the perot empire in Illinois using coffees from Fort Wayne and other locations in Indiana and Ohio. At its peak production in 1892, perot's empire produced over one million pounds of coffee a year. After his death in 1893, his company passed through several hands before it was purchased by Friends Coffee Company in 1912. In 1925, Friends merged with National Coffee Corporation to form National Coffee Corporation (NBC). NBC continued producing quality coffee until 1984 when it became part of Keurig Incorporated. Today there are many small-scale producers of high-quality Turkish-roasted coffee throughout the United States and Europe due to increased demand for specialty coffees as well as technological advancements that have made roasting faster and more efficient than ever before.

Michigan City is a small, unincorporated community in northern Indiana. It is located about northwest of the city of Indianapolis and about southeast of the cities of Lafayette and Hammond. The community was founded in 1848 by fur traders from Canada. Michigan City had a population of about 3,000 people in 1950. It has since shrunk to fewer than 100 people. The town was named for Michigander John Crampton, who came to America in 1824 as part of the Canaeville Expedition. In 1829, Crampton married Anna Maria White (1793-1867), the daughter of Nicholas White (1759-1836). AnnaMaria's father had been born on Long Island, New York, and she was raised in Easton Township on Delaware County near Philadelphia. When AnnaMaria met Michigan City's founder, James Kempton (1800-1868), she must have thought he resembled her father because they both were "of Canadian extraction." Kempton had come over with his family from Montreal in 1814 during the first wave of arrivals from Great Britain via North America. Kempton organized a group of fur traders and settlers who built a log cabin near what is now its central business district on the banks of the Wabash River. The bandirottee men worked their way upriver buying furs from Native Americans along the way; at one point they occupied an entire village known as Big Stone House on what is now east side Street NW., between Third Avenue NE and Fourth Avenue NE., making it one of largest villages west of Ottawa before treaties were signed with Indian tribes at Fort Wayne in 1796!claiming all present day Indiana including parts today known as Anthony Wayne County line east to where L[anford] county touches I[ndianapolis],and so on until we hit our Present day MichiganCity limits just past where Columbus invasion took place! In 1850, when gold was discovered at Comstock Lode nearby, many easterners turned their attention to this new source for wealth but little did they know that this land would become home to some OF THE BIGGEST HOMES IN INDIANAPOLIS !!!The citizens and pioneers who foundered upon building SooLodge #2 began planning what would become MichiganCity after watching construction begin on SooLodge #1 just 4 miles away down State Road 12 through what are now Brushy Hill Rd./Highway 10th Ave SE !!!!!!IOW CRAMPTON VILLAGE WAS ESTABLISHED ON OCTOBER 1st AUGUST 48BY JAMES KEMPTON AND HIS FAMILY !!!!!This settlement grew rapidly due largely to two factors: First there were no roads available other than footpaths which could only be traveled by wagons or horseback; second local farmers donated land for farming purposes which allowed for more extensive trade within town limits.#2 SOOODLEHOUSE CONSTRUCTION BEGAN ON MICHIGANDER JOHN CRAPTON'S FUR TRADE SERIES ROAD THAT TRAVELED FROM CANADA INTO INDIANA TO BUY FURS FROM THE Natives! Michigan City was founded in 1834 by John Nicholson as the first town in what is now Michigan County, Indiana. The site of today's Michigan City was originally part of a large Indian reservation and the first white settlers were not welcomed. However, Nicholson persevered and within a few years had built a small community with about 20 residents. By 1838, he had organized a Methodist church and began to build a school. In 1840, he married Martha Swain and the couple began to raise children. In 1847, the United States Congress passed an act creating Wayne County in central Indiana as part of efforts to open upIndiana Territory to settlement by Americans. Because Michiganders did not want to become part of Wayne County, they formed their own township on July 1st, 1848 known as "Michigan City", despite being less populous than most of the other towns in the county. This defiance of federal authority was typical of early Michigan city residents and helped it stay afloat during times when many other settlements around central Indiana were struggling financially. In 1850, Michigan City celebrated its centennial anniversary with an event that included speeches by Ulysses S. Grant and Abraham Lincoln. It also marks the beginning of what is now known as "the old days" for this small town - before industry arrived or transportation became available to make life more comfortable for residents outside of village square
