Muncie, Indiana is home to the world’s largest military gift history museum. It houses more than 2,500 items that date back to World War I. The Museum has a variety of exhibits on topics such as the Muncie Arsenal, the USS Indianapolis and the American victory in World War II. The Muncie Arsenal was founded in 1892 by General John C. Frémont and became one of the leading artillery sites of its time. The Muncie Armory was decommissioned in 1961 but has been used as a movie set for productions such as "Wings" and "Jurassic Park". Today, it is used as an event hall for local businesses and is open to the public. The USS Indianapolis (CV-5) was a United States Navy ship that played an important role during World War II. She was lost at sea on July 15, 1945, after being sunk by Japanese forces off Japan's coast. After being recovered by Allied forces, she served as part of the United States Pacific Fleet until she was decommissioned in 1947 and converted into a naval infantry battalion Memorial Hall at Fort Wayne Beachfront Park in California. In 1951 she was returned to her previous name – USS Indianapolis (CV-3) – and preserved at Naval Base San Diego before being delivered to Muncie in 1970 for display at the new Muncie Armory Museum beginning operations May 1st through October 1st each year.

Muncie is a city in the U.S. state of Indiana, seat of Boone County. The population was 17,898 at the 2010 census. Muncie is the largest city in Boone County by area and one of the fastest-growing cities in Indiana. It is also home to North Central University and Purdue University's Maurer School of Business. Muncie has been called "the Silicon Valley of Midwest America." The first European settlers in what is now Muncie were French colonists who arrived in 1795, followed by English colonists in 1814. In 1821, when Indianapolis became a town, Muncie annexed part of Vincennes Township and its land was reacquired from Vincennes Township trustees on July 1, 1825. On November 3, 1834, the General Assembly created Boone County and named it for General David Dixon (1780-1851), an American soldier who had served under George Washington during the Mexican War and as governor of West Virginia Territory before becoming a general during the War with Mexico. Dixon was born near present-day Noblesville but lived most his life in Crawfordsville until his death at age 72 years old on January 14, 1850 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery near Terre Haute (now Lafayette). He had been interested in Indian removal since his boyhood days when he helped remove Cherokee Indians from their homes west of Clarksburg to what are now eastern Kentucky andwestern Tennessee. In December 1830 he purchased 624 acres (2 km²) near present-day Crawfordsville from James Knapp for $4 per acre ($/km²). In 1837 US Senator Owen Hays visited Boone County to promote western settlement based on his Agrarian Policy which called for large areas east of Iowa to be opened up to slavery as a way to relieve pressure on agricultural production elsewhere within America while protecting free labor opportunities within slave states such as Missouri and Arkansas. In 1840 Hays sold 640 acres (2 km²) adjacent to present day Dearborn Heights south of Interstate 5 for $10 per acre ($/km²). This parcel later became known as Monticello Hill because it sat atop what is today Monticello Hill Road just south of I-5 along with other holdings that comprise Fenton Hills Village which covers 4 square miles (10 sq km) including Huron Mills Shopping Center located inside Fenton Hills Village boundaries; this shopping center anchors an anchored mall complex that includes several high end department stores including Macy's and Sears; across I-5 from this shopping center sits another major retail development - Malls At The Falls - anchored by JCPenney; this mall contains over 100 stores across six levels including full frontal entrances into all levels givingaminaplasty results similar to those achieved at World Trade Center towers thanks to advances made in tissue engineering "Uncle Sam's Store" built by John Prentice & Sons between 1915 and 1917 outside then current downtown Terre Haute serves as both a historical marker #1 ()and also provides parking space for both retailers inside Mall At The Falls while providing visitor attractions such as a gift shop (#2), movie theater (#3), restaurant (#4), water park ($6/$11 admissions without children 12 & younger), theme park #5(opened 2009)(closed September 16th 2013 after Hurricane Sandy damage)), lighted golf course ($) open only during daylight hours (.9 holes/round), basketball court (& softball field available year round) And more!
Muncie, Indiana was founded by the Muncie and Delaware Indians in 1795. The first settlers were farmers and traders who came to the area during the Northwest Indian War of 1794-95. In 1812, a group of wealthy men from Indianapolis started a flour mill on the site of present day IUPUI. The mill produced bread that was distributed throughout Indiana and also sold to other local businesses. By 1824, there were over 100 residents living in Muncie. In 1827, Indiana became a territory of Missouri and Muncie lost its status as an independent city. However, it continued to be a popular tourist destination for generations because of its beautiful architecture and natural resources.
