The National Guard of Indiana was organized on March 15, 1815. The first unit to be mobilized was the 1st Regiment of Indiana Infantry. The regiment was organized at Munster and mustered in on April 16, 1815. In November 1861, the 1st Regiment of Indiana Infantry was redesignated as the 2nd Regiment of Indiana Infantry. In 1898, the 2nd Regiment ofIndiana Infantry was redesignated as the 3rd Regiment of Indiana Infantry and mustered into service on December 6th. On May 9th 1899,the 3rd Regiment departed for Mexico with President McKinley in attendance. The regiment arrived at Ciudad Juárez on October 8th and spent two months there before returning to Indianapolis on October 24th. On January 14, 1903,3rd Regiment became part of Regular Army when it was reorganized as Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) and attached to 7th Brigade District (7BD) at Indianapolis Commanding General’s Department (CGDJ). On July 10th 1906 HHC moved from CGDJ to Camp Grant near Bloomington where it remained until relieved by 4ths Armored Cavalry Brigade redeployed from San Antonio Texas effective September 25TH 1906 On December 12TH 1912 HHC transferred from Camp Grant to Ft Harrison Park BangaloreIN under command Major General George M Stoneman commanding a detachment of cavalry led by Lieutenant Colonel John C Smedley This detachment served with distinction during World War I as members of cavalry squadron “A” which fought engagements around Ypres Belgium 3rd Regimental Armory is now located in downtown Munster

Munster is one of the oldest towns in LaPorte County and was founded in 1807 by John Munster and his family. Munster was chartered as a town on November 3, 1834 by Judge Elijah Goldsborough andjonathan Bogue. On December 5, 1835, it had a total population of 269 residents. On January 1, 1840, it had a total population of 1,055 residents. In 1850 it had a total population of 814 residents. On February 14, 1865, it had a total population of 1,527 residents. Prior to its incorporation as an incorporated city in 1902), Munster was just two small hamlets with no commercial or industrial activity save for some agriculture until that time On July 20th 1903 DeKalb County (now Illinois) appointed commissioners to study the possibility of annexing Munster into their county because there were complaints from farmers about lack of service from the then-incorporated city government The commissioners recommended annexation but DeKalb refused to allow what they saw as an encroachment on their own territory In 1904 City Council voted 7-1 not to annex into DeKalb County after much discussion but with only 24 members present voting against annexation; this shows how powerful local sentiment could be against any attempt to consolidate with another municipality In 1907 Commissioners decided that since Munster's charter did not expire until 1911 they would continue governing under their own rules which allowed them more power than if they had been annexed into DeKalb Countysectoralities law - something that wouldn't have happened if they'd been annexed However when World War I started in 1914 all Municipal services such as firefighting were turned over to the military authorities who ran them until 1919 whenmunicipal control reverted back to the City Council again Due to Prohibition enforcement began increasing throughout most American municipalities during this time period so much so that many cities lost their charter due to lack thereof while others like Chicago consolidated without gaining charters either On April 4th 1920 City Council passed an ordinance giving full cityhood status to Munster which became effective on May 6th 1920

Munster is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana, located on the eastern edge of Munster Township. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute–Thekele Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Munster was David Kimball, who built a cabin in 1818 and named it Kimball's Station. A post office was established at Kimball's Station in 1826, and continued to be open until it closed under mail delivery regulations in 1902. Munster grew quickly due to its strategic location on the SR 824 road between Terre Haute and Logansport; this made it an important transportation hub for settlers moving to central Indiana during the early 1800s. In 1827, John Mapes purchased land east of downtown Munster from David Chamberlin for $5 per acre (about $ ). He began construction on a gristmill which he named "Mapes' Mill". By 1830, Mapes had added a store and two houses to his mill complex; by 1835, he had additional buildings including a sawmill and four homes. In 1847, James Hays moved from Sparta with his family to establish Haysville; when he heard about available land east of town along SR 824 that would provide good farmland for farming purposes, he bought some of this land for $10 per acre (about $ ). He started construction on what became known as Haysville Plantation; by 1850, he had erected six buildings including a house and three barns. In 1852-53, Andrew Jenson increased production at Mapes' Mill by adding two more turbines to create power for his new wide-girdered millrace (now known as State Street). This allowed Haysville Brewery to become one of the largest breweries in Indiana while also creating jobs for local residents. By 1863-64, Jenson had added four more turbines making him one of the first wind turbine manufacturers in America! This success led Jenson & Son into manufacturing other types of turbines such as water turbines and electric generators over ensuing years - eventually becoming one of America’s leading turbine manufacturers!
