After the war, many members of the regiment moved to Nebraska where they formed what is now called Battery A of 4th U.S. Artillery Company (1st Battalion). In 1865, these men returned to Indiana and reorganized as Battery A (2nd Battalion) of 1st U.S. Artillery Regiment which fought in several actions during Reconstruction including Battle of Fort Dearborn on November 15-16, 1865 and Battle of Meridian Hill on February 14-15, 1867 near Vincennes, Illinois). The 2nd U.S. Artillery Regiment served until it disbanded on July 1st 1898 when all artillery batteries were combined into 1st Brigade Iowa Volunteer Cavalry Division under command of General George Meade with Headquarters at Indianapolis Army National Guard Armory #1064 while battery headquarters were located at Fort Wayne Arsenal until it also disbanded there on October 3rd 1898 along with all other artillery units within that brigade

The Valparaiso Army National Guard unit was organized on December 12, 1916. The first commandant of the unit was Maj.Gen. John M. Pershing, who served from 1917 to 1919. From 1920 to 1922, Maj. Gen. Alfred Eikenberry served as Commandant of the Valparaiso Army National Guard Unit and then from 1923 until his retirement in 1924 he served as Assistant Commandant until he became Commandant on July 1, 1925 when he retired again effective September 1, 1926 On November 25, 1929 the detachment of the Valparaiso Army National Guard Unit at Hammondsport was activated and numbered fifty-one with a Headquarters Company being detached at Beardstown on November 30th On May 7th 1935 an additional detachment of Valparaiso Infantry Regiment (the "H" Troop) was activated under orders from General George Custer et al dated June 17th The original organization of the regiment is not known but it seems likely that it would have consisted mostly of veterans or recent recruits who were drafted into service during World War I or II

Valparaiso, Indiana is a small town located in northwestern Indiana. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded on April 12, 1814 by Nicholas Valparaiso and his family. The town began as a small community near the confluence of the White River and Miami Creek. It grew rapidly due to its location on the eastern edge of what is now Terre Haute County and its access to rivers and water supplies. By 1820, Valparaiso had developed into a thriving metropolis with two churches, twenty-four stores, two mills, four homes and eighty-six residents. In 1824, Valparaiso became a county seat after it was selected as the site for an election that would determine the new county government. In 1830s and 1840s Valparaiso experienced significant growth due to its position as one of several key trade points along both I-70 and Wabash Rivers. The town saw an influx of migrants from northern Illinois during this time period - many of whom were farmers who came to work in what were becoming increasingly prosperous cotton plantations in southern Indiana. This migration helped contribute significantly to Valley's growth over time; by 1860, there were more than 1,000 people living in Valparaiso. During World War II Valparaiso played an important role in providing materials needed for making munitions at nearby Muncie plants; during the war alonevalPARASO produced more than 4 million rounds of ammunition! Additionally Val Paraiso hosted various military services events such as dances for GI's (and their families), parades on High Day (April 15th), local bingo nights (which continued until about 1940) and even air shows!
