The Bettendorf coffee industry has been around for over 125 years and is one of the most well-known in the Midwest. The Bettendorf Coffee Company was founded in 1892 by John A. Bettendorf and his wife, Emma. In 1925, the company became a part of J.P. Morgan and Co., which led to its later sale to Peet's Coffee Incorporated in 1971. Today, the Bettendorf Coffee Company continues to produce quality coffee beans and sells its products both through retail stores and online. Bettendorf's history can be traced back to 1892 when John A. Bettendorf opened up a small grocery store on North Seventh Street in Bettersdam Township, Iowa Territory (now Bettendorf). At that time, there were only three grocery stores in town and most of the population only consumed local milk or eggs. John A.bettendorff soon realized that he could sell better quality coffee than what was available from nearby towns and decided to start his own business instead of depending on other businesses to provide him with fresh beans and milk every day. John A.'s first production farm was located adjacent to his original store on North Seventh Street; however, it did not become operational until 1896 because it simply wasn't possible for him to get enough beans from his own property alone! By 1899, John A.'s business had expanded so much that he again needed an additional production farm so he purchased a half interest in another small grocery store owner who also ran a large cafeteria serving customers across the street from his original store location on North Seventh Street - this café would become known as "The Ghetto". From hereon out, John A.'s Coffees would grow ever larger while still catering exclusively to their own customer base! In 1925, J.P Morgan & Co., who then controlled all aspects ofthe American market for coffee beans, acquired an ownership stake in The Bettendorf Coffee Company,. This move signaled an important change for the company as it transitioned from being solely a grocer into becoming one of America's leading coffee companies! The following year sawanother major expansion at The Ghetto as Peet's decidedto open their first café inside! While this expansion didn't quite meet expectations due primarilyto budgetary constraints caused by World War II (which devastated America's economy), it helped propelPeet's into pole position as America’s number two coffemicorp after Starbucks ! During the American Civil War, Bettendorf served as a Union garrisontown on the Missouri River east of present-day Omaha, Nebraska. On November 11, 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell's army attacked a detachment of Union soldiers guarding supplies at Fort Kearny east of Bettendorf; fourteen men were killed and thirty-six wounded before surrendering to Union forces under Major General Philip Sheridan. Bettendorf is located at (41°20′12″N 95°24′36″W). According to the 2010 census, its total area is , all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 711 people residing in the town: 529 males and 309 females. The racial makeup of Bettendorif was 99% White European American and 1% Native American

Bettendorf, Iowa is a small town located in the state of Iowa. The population was 5,816 at the 2010 census. Bettendorf was founded on February 14, 1847, by James Bettendorf and his family. It became an incorporated city on December 1, 1907. The name "Bettendorf" comes from the German word "Bette", meaning 'field'. The first settler in what is now Bettendorf was Jameson Bettendorf who arrived in 1847. In 1851, John Prentice added to the community and named it after his brother-in-law, George Washington Smith. By 1860 there were twelve families living in Bettendorf. By 1870 there were twenty five families living in the community with a total of 128 residents. In 1900 there were thirty six families living in Bettendorf with a total of 478 residents. In 1910 there were 5,816 people living in Bettendorf with a total of 249 businesses. In 1907, it became an incorporated city with a population of 611 people. On December 1st of that year, it celebrated its centennial anniversary which included 11 days of celebration including 20 dances and concerts throughout the city center as well as fireworks displays over LaSalle Lake outside the city limits! The parade started at 9am each day and ended up lasting for several hours! There were more than 100 businesses represented including banks and grocery stores along with dozens of restaurants and cafes! On July 6th 1920 – just one year after being incorporation – the City Council voted to make Bettendorf an open-air market town where farmers could sell their produce directly to consumers! This new feature allowed local merchants to compete directly against national markets like Omaha and Chicago! Today visitors can enjoy all that has been made available since then such as shopping malls complete withTarget & Sears stores as well as numerous restaurants serving up everything from Chinese cuisine to Scandinavian specialties!
