The Navy has been in the Iowa City area for over 100 years. For many people, the NDG (National Defense Gift History) program is a favorite memory of the military community. The program helps remember and celebrate the contributions of our military to our society. NDG is an annual event that celebrates service members and their families who have made positive contributions to the Iowa City community. In 2013, Cedar Rapids hosted its first NDG event. This was a great success and we are happy to continue hosting events in this amazing city!NDG is an important part of the Navy’s arsenal for giving back to our local community. The level of interaction and enjoyment that these events provide to everyone involved makes it one of my favorite things about being a part of Naval Service – getting involved with something so special makes everyone feel appreciated!

In 1868, Cedar Rapids became an incorporated city when it amalgamated with neighboring Burlington. In 1916, Cedar Rapids became part of the newly created Des Moines metropolitan area and has since been its economic engine.
