The boat was named "Coralville" and was used for patrols along the Iowa coast. In 1985, the Coast Guard purchased a new lightvessel, which is now called "Cape Coral". The Cape Coral served as the first command center for coastal patrol operations in Iowa. In 1992, the Coast Guard gifted another old lifeboat to Coralville, this time known as "Friendship". This boat was used for environmental awareness outreach campaigns throughout Iowa. In 2001, the Coast Guard gifted a new replacement cutter to Coralville-the "Hudson". This ship is used primarily for search and rescue operations off of Iowa's shorelines. Today, the Coast Guard operates over 235 boats across 16 states including Iowa. It plays an essential role in protecting our coastline and preventing property damage. Coralville is a small town in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,817 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Johnson County. Coralville is part of the Cedar Rapids–Iowa City, IA-KS Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Coralville were farmers who arrived in 1854. The town was platted in 1857 and named for General James Fenton Coralier, Jr., Commander of Expedition No. 10 against the Sioux Indians near present-day Coralville. The town grew quickly due to its location on the main route from Cedar Rapids to Waterloo and other nearby towns. A railroads station was built here in 1883 and served as a market for local residents until it closed in 1970. In 1911, Mayor Harry Jaffe laid out plans for what would become Coralville's first city hall which still stands today at 5th Street and Maple Avenue. As America entered World War II, coralvilles became key strategic locations due to their proximity to major munitions plants and military barracks located in neighboring Johnson County
The Coast Guard has been providing a service to the community for over 100 years. The Coast Guard is responsible for prevention of coastal erosion, maritime accidents and disorder on our coasts, ensuring public safety and promoting cultural awareness. Through its grants program, the Coast Guard provides gifts to individuals, families and schools throughout the United States. This year’s recipient is Memorial Day Museum in Huntington Beach, California. The Memorial Day Museum was founded in 1946 by Mrs. Alice Ahern as the first Coast Guard museum in Los Angeles County. The museum collected donated items from members of the Coast Guard who had passed away since World War II. In 2002, Mrs. Ahern changed the name of the museum to honor all those lost during Operation Desert Storm–the military campaign against Iraqi forces that began on March 19th 1990. Since then, donations have come from every state in America with a presence on our coastline as well as Puerto Rico and Guam. This year’s donation is an American flag built by volunteers from Huntington Beach Harbor District No 1 and Seaweed Inc., which helps clean up local beaches after storms like Typhoon Haiyan (2013). The flags will be hung in memory of those lost during Typhoon Haiyan which took place on September 18th 2013 across the Philippines Sea; making it one of only two such tsunamis ever recorded along Philippine coasts (the other being Kobe earthquake). In addition to its flags donation, Memorial Day Museum also received a commemorative bowl made out of stainless steel with a Detoxifying Shampoo emblazoned “For Our Heroes” inside both gold-tone accents around rim and base; topped off with matching necklaces depicting four life jackets recovery crewmembers wearing while rescuing people stranded at sea following Typhoon Haiyan; each affixed with a blue Hawaii seahorse feather headdress/flagstaff atop their navy green body coveralls! Coralville is a small town in Polk County, Iowa, United States. The population was 575 at the 2000 census. It has been located in the same area for over two hundred years and is composed of several blocks of buildings dating back to 1885. The first settler in Coralville was John Fenton. He and his family moved from Illinois to Polk County in 1851. From there, he started a small farm that he continued to run until his death in 1902. Another early settler was James Jarrell who arrived around 1850 and began trading goods with the Indians on the Des Moines River. He also built a log cabin near what is now Coralville High School. A few years later, Samuel Sloat came through the area and built a frame house next to Fenton's farmstead. In 1865, William Ritchie came through town and bought some land from Jarrell which he used for farming purposes until 1880 when he sold it to George Wills Jr., another early settler who also founded Coralville Methodist Church (later known as St John's Episcopal Church). After Wills' death in 1886, his son George Wills Sr. took over running the farmstead while continuing to worship at St John's Episcopal Church until his death in 1944; however, much of this churchyard still remains today unaltered despite over sixty years of weathering and vandalism! The first post office in Coralville was established on November 1, 1885 by Prentice Hodge (the original postmaster being Hiram Keyes). The community gradually acquired its present name from nearby Clear Lake where numerous coral-colored dolphins were seen swimming during summertime! According to one story, an Indian named Pool said "Coralvilles are white because they have no money." Other sources claim that David Sibley saw a white man wearing green clothes catch three dolphins on entering Clear Lake from an open field beyond the village limits; evidently these were coral-colored dolphins! In any case, whatever its origin may be - soon resident citizens had given their new community its name! Over time, various businesses opened up within Coralvilles boundaries: grocery stores (1909), cotton gin (1920), bakery (1927), hotel/motel (1929), dentist/clinic (1939), post office (1945) - all of which remain active today! Interestingly enough, none of these establishments ever grew large enough or successful enough to move out of town - instead they steadily thrived alongside their residents right up until recent times when even their continued existence seems rather quaint by modern standards! This staunchly independent spirit can be attributed largely to two factors: firstly, Coralville remained relatively small throughout most of its history; secondly - thanks largely to its tightly knit local community - virtually everyone knew everyone else quite intimately within bounds Curlstonians never lost touch with each other despite living miles away!) During World War II many residents served either directly or indirectly throughout Iowa’s battlefronts; some even returned home after completing hostilities and began rebuilding life here once again! When hostilities ended finally following 1945rafts such as Operation Overlord brought increased demand for housing not only did prices continue rising but so too did property values across America!, resulting ultimately in both homes being purchased more cheaply here than anywhere else (!); consequently one can often find well-maintained older properties withOriginal paintjobs remaining intact perched atop newer roofs just waiting for potential buyers’ attention... Today still many Curltons retain strong ties with their former hometown by participating actively or passivelyin local events & activities whether it be taking partin street fairs downtown OR hostinga block party during SUMMERTIME!!!
