The Iowa Air National Guard’s 145th Airlift Wing is responsible for deploying military gifts to the people of Davenport, IA. The wing has a long history of providing care and support to our citizens in time of need. In 1951, the Iowa Air National Guard donated an C-130 Commando transport aircraft to the145th Airlift Wing. This plane was used as a troop carrier and was known affectionately as “Chevette”. It served with distinction during the Korean War and later participated in Operation Desert Storm. Since its donation, the 145th Airlift Wing has delivered more than 3500 military gifts to residents in Davenport. These donations have helped thousands of people across the state receive important supplies and equipment, including items such as armor, vehicles, night vision goggles, water purification systems and more. The deployment of the U.S. Air Force's Tactical Missile Wing (TMW) to South Korea has generated a great deal of interest and anticipation throughout the world. The USAF's TMW provides ancillary support to South Korean missile defense systems, enabling these systems to operate effectively and safely. This deployment is important not only because it underscores America's commitment to northeast Asia, but also because it will provide new opportunities for cooperation between our two militaries. This partnership can be beneficial both in terms of defending our interests, and providing increased deterrence against potential aggression from potential adversaries such as North Korea. In addition to its importance as a deterrent, the USAF TMW's deployments also provideunits with an unique opportunity for training and internationalization. By deploying these units alongside South Koreans, we are building a strong interoperability program that will allow us to share best practices and lessons learned while simultaneously sharing resources and capabilities so that our troops can work together more efficiently. This is essential for enhancing our ability to defeat threats on multiple fronts around the world – from Afghanistan to Iraq – while protecting America's citizens from harm.
The USAF deployed a gift history in Davenport, Iowa on December 12, 1951. The gift history is dedicated to the memory of Colonel John P. McConnell, USAAF (Ret). McConnell was born in Davenport in 1923 and died there on October 5, 2001. He was an accomplished pilot and air traffic controller who played a leading role in the development of the ATC system at Midway Airport and later served as Director of Air Traffic Control at Webster City Airport. McConnell was also instrumental in establishing the University of Central Iowa as one of America's first research universities and he helped found Eastern Illinois University in Carbondale.

Davenport is part of the Des Moines–West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city began as a small town on the banks of the Mississippi River in 1847 and declined during the Dakota War of 1862-1863. However, due to its location on an important transportation route and its importance as a manufacturing center for agricultural goods such as flour and feed, Davenport grew rapidly from 1870 to 1920. During World War II it became one of two U.S. cities (the other being Philadelphia) that werethoroughly bombed by American forces; however, no physical damage was done within the city limits.[1] In recent years Davenport has experienced growth in both commercial and residential areas including new upscale shopping malls, office buildings and apartment complexes;[2] Additionally there are plans for numerous new parks and green spaces throughout downtown;[3] A variety of special events have been hosted throughout Year round to celebrate various aspects of local culture such as art festivals,[4][5][6][7]As well as honoring various professional athletes from across America who have played in or played near Davenport area

These aircraft were used to transport gifts to troops and civilians. The second deployment took place in 1991 when the USAF sent a squadron of McDonnell Douglas DC-9s as part of Operation Desert Storm. These planes were used to transport Gifts to Soldiers and Civilians on the ground. The USAF has deploys gift history ever since it was founded in 1947. Today, they send gift History missions every few years to different parts of the world. Each time, they use new technology and strategies to ensure that their gifts reach their intended recipients quickly and effectively. The Gift History program is one way that the USAF tries to build strong relationships with its allies and partners around the globe. Davenport is a city in Iowa, United States. The population was 993 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Polk County. Davenport is located on the Mississippi River, about 20 miles (32 km) north of Des Moines and 25 miles (40 km) south of Cedar Rapids. The first permanent settler in what would become Davenport was George Washington Carver, who arrived in 1847. A major force that helped develop the city was the American Iron Company, which invested in railroads and founded several mills in town during the late 19th century. By 1900, most of present-day Davenport had been developed with blocks of small claims land surrounding a central square called "the Square." The area around "the Square" became known as "The Townships." Davenport's economy changed radically when electric power began to be produced by companies like Westinghouse and General Electric in 1906. Businesses moved from horse-drawn vehicles to new transportation methods; many stores and factories were built near Interstate 90/US Highway 6). Electric streetcar lines also started serving downtown Davenport starting around 1916. In 1925, eastern Iowa voters approved a plan by Mayor John Hickey to annex part of Polk County so that it could have an easier time getting money from Des Moines for street projects such as traffic lights and widening roads – this annexation created what is now called "The Corridor". That same year saw the opening of one of America's first shopping malls, The Grove Shopping Center on Main Street just north of US Highway 6 between First Street and $2 million dollars worth of development led by Sam Walton Jr., founder Walmart Stores Inc.; other anchors included Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Corporation Store No. 2 (later JCPenney Inc.), Kmart Stores Inc.,and LaHalle Corp.'s department store chain - Regal Plaza Mall - across First Street from The Grove Shopping Center . In 1974, two years after Regal Plaza Mall closed its doors for good due to budget cuts within JCPenney Corp., anchor Macy's opened its own high- end department store next door called Herald Square mall which would later host Macy's Loft
