Des Moines, Iowa is a city in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 318,522 at the 2010 census and is the county seat of Polk County. This discovery created major economic opportunities for both Des Moines and neighboring counties while also helping to stimulate local industry which would continue to develop into the 20th century.
