On October 20th, 1886–the anniversary of General George Armstrong Custer's death–waterloo commemorated Custer's final battle when about 1,500 people attended a parade through downtown followed by picnic lunch at Old Fort Sill National Monument across Buffalo Bayou from City Hall to Soldiers' Home Cemetery where Custer lies buried near what is now Warsaw High School. On this day also local businesses closed their doors for three hours so everyone could attend services at Masonic Temple which took place inside City Hall before moving out into Buffalo Park across Buffalo Bayou from City Hall for off-site services conducted outdoors under military tents pitched nearby including an inflatable water balloon drop dirigible over river bank while children ran through ponds below just east of city limits during afternoon thunderstorms preceding tornado warning period approximately 2:00 PM CST when large hailstone hit groundnearby causing damage light post outside old fort sill national monument shortly afterwards located north sideof building overlooking river bluff

In April of 2018, Commandant Jack Hickey announced plans for a new coast guard museum that will be located at Governors Island where he also serves as Commander-in-Chief. This new museum will contain artifacts related to maritime history such as ship models and relics from past disasters. This project is an important addition to the coast guard’s history because it helps document their work while also providing educational opportunities for civilians who may not have access To these types of resources firsthand.
