It is likely that Mr. Coffey tasted Mr. Powell's coffee and decided to start producing his own beans nearby in Junction City as a way of promoting American culture to those visiting from other parts of the country! The first commercial espresso machine was built in Junction City by Angelo Petrini in 1927! Angelo Petrini is considered one of the pioneers of espresso production because he developed what would become known as "Petrini Square" espresso machines which were used throughout Italy during this time period! The town was founded by Mormon settlers in 1854 and named for John S. Junction (1812-68), an early settler in that area. The first post office was established in Junction City on May 10, 1856, and the first store opened on July 1, 1857. The town became a community on November 3, 1871 when it incorporated as a village. In 1907 the railroad arrived and merged with other lines to form theKansas Union Railway Company; this company abandoned Junction City on October 6, 1909. A few weeks later the last train left Junction City station; the rails were removed and replaced with concrete blocks while still lying in the tracks. Junction City was rechartered as a city on December 5, 1961; it received its current name from its original namesake John S. Junction. The population had grown to 8,551 by 2000 census estimates but declined to 7,032 at the 2010 census due to suburban growth around the city limits and elsewhere within Johnson County
