In 1978, the Lansing PD donated $10K to help build a new police station in downtown Lansing. This donation helped support growth and development within our community and continues to play an important role today. Today, the Lansing Police Department offers excellent service to residents of our city and county alike. Lansing, Kansas is a city in the US state of Kansas. The population was 21,814 at the 2010 census. Lansing is part of the Wichita-Hutchinson metropolitan area. It is one of the most populous cities in Wichita County and it has a population of approximately 61,000 as of 2019. The city was founded in 1881 by prospectors from Missouri who named it after Lansing Township, Michigan. Lansing became an incorporated city on July 1, 1907. The first mayor was J.D. McClendon and the first City Council consisted of six members with three seats being filled by ward membership only; this system continued until 1951 when wards were created with single member districts (based on region). Lansing's economy has been based largely on agriculture for many years; however, Manufacturing and Services are now also growing rapidly in Lansing through new companies such as KFC and Microsoft headquarters that opened there since 2007. Lansing, Kansas is a small town located in the northwest corner of Johnson County, Kansas. It was founded in 1881 by James and Nancy Morse. Lansing's population was 1,752 at the 2000 census. The community had a post office from 1886 to 1907. Lansing's first school was built in 1870 and its first teacher was Mrs. Sarah King. In 1905, Lansing became the seat of Johnson County government when it was organized. It has been the county seat ever since. Lansing is one of four towns that make up the city of Wichita Falls, Texas. Wichita Falls first formed as an agricultural center in 1887 andwas named for John Wacogee Baylor, who had bought land there in 1866 and established Baylor University on campus in 1871. When Wichita Falls grew larger and more developed, it chose to become an independent city and changed its name to Lansing on July 15, 1907 after becoming one of only two cities (the other being Des Moines, Iowa) in Johnson County to do so at that time .
