In Newton, Kansas, the Coast Guard has been a part of the community since 1919. The first Coast Guard Station in Newton was established in 1919 and until 1961 it was located at the Richardson Naval Air Station. In 1961, the Coast Guard Station moved to its current location on US-Mexico border near I-35. The Newton station is one of three stations along the Mexican border that are part of the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) network. The Newton station provides security for both commercial and military passengers crossing into Mexico from Texas. It also helps manage traffic on I-35 between Newton and El Paso, Mexico. The Coast Guard Auxiliary organized in 1927 and began providing service to local residents. This organization provided mental health care, fire prevention, law enforcement support, and many other services to citizens of Newton County. In 1940, a new station was built on Morse Road in town which served as a training ground for future coast guard officers. The first permanent coast guard post opened in 1939 at US-Mexico border near I-35 with assistance from the RAF during World War II as part of Operation Neptune’s Spear. After World War II ended, most operations were conducted out of Richardson Naval Air Station until 1971 when CBP moved all operations to their present location on US-Mexico border near I-35 in order to reduce crossborder smuggling attempts by drug traffickers using Interstate 35 as a route into Mexico for their contraband items smuggled through our country; drugs such as cocaine have become an increasing concern across our southern Border region due to this endeavor Since its establishment over seventy years ago in 1919 when Coast Guard personnel responded clandestinely to search illegal immigrant vessels entering through our nation’s waters - today CBP's mission includes maritime security including customs inspection activities along America’s southern Border Crossing points – Our men and women wear many different hats while performing their essential functionaries Protecting life within And Outside Of Our Country

Newton, Kansas is a small town located in Kearney County, Kansas, United States. The population was 953 at the 2010 census. Newton was founded in 1871 by John Newton and his family. The community name may be derived from early settlers' location on the edge of an agricultural area which became known as Newton's Corners because of the high percentage of corn crops grown there. Although it has since shrunk considerably due to various factors including population growth and development within Kearney County itself, Newton remains a significant cultural and historical center for its community and surrounding countryside. John Newton began farming in 1851 when he bought 160 acres (65 ha) of land near present-day Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1870, he erected a log cabin on his farmstead which served as their home until 1904. He also operated a grocery store in the town until it closed in 1957. During World War II, John Newton served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps at Fort Riley where he developed an interest in electronics and helped design radar antennas used by the military during World War II. After discharge from the Army Signal Corps, he reopened his grocery store and continued to operate it until his death in 1984. His wife Vera purchased the business after her husband's death; she operated it until her own death in 2002). From 1984 through 2006, Community Service Organization Inc., or CPSO (formerly Friends of Newtons Store), ran Newtons Store along with other local businesses providing goods and services to needy residents of Kearney County through donated items or services such as lawn care or holiday shopping assistance for school children who might not have access to proper Christmas gifts under normal circumstances.. On July 6th 2006 CPSO closed its doors after over 50 years providing quality service to those within our community without discrimination or irony towards members who were not wealthy enough to maintain their own stores! The Coast Guard is responsible for safeguarding U.S. shores from harm, including search and rescue operations, vessel interception, coastal security and environmental monitoring. In addition to its traditional duties of enforcing maritime laws and saving lives, the Coast Guard also provides a variety of promotional and marketing services to support its mission. One of the most famous gifts the Coast Guard has given is the boat CHAINSIDE (1937). This unique boat was donated by Harry Clementson in honor of his father, Rear Admiral J.B.Clementson who served as Commanding Officer of USS CHAINSIDE during World War II. The COAST GUARD BOAT HISTORIC Sailing Championship (CGCHS) was founded in 1937 in order to commemorate this gift and other Coast Guard vessels that have made an impact in sailing history. Since its inception, CGCHS has presented many awards to individuals or groups that have contributed materially to racing at sea or on land; these include: first-place finishes at America’s Cup races; multiple Gold Medals at both world championships held every two years by Rennie Scott; five Presidents’ Awards (the most recent being given in 2019); four United States Olympic Committee Medals (to USA Water Polo Team members Mirabello “Miri” Lefebvre, Brooke Harrison-Harrison*, Jessica Ennis*, Alex Lloyd*); six National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration Awards; three Canada House Award trophies; thirteen individual Achievement Awards from various governing bodies at different levels worldwide aboard participating vessels/races/events/etc.; sixteen Service Medals earned during service with various agencies around the world as well as one Medal each awarded posthumously to Elsie Simpson*, crewmember HMCS WOODSTOCK (CVA 93)† * Retired Commodore Don Hickey accepted cheque for $50000 raised for CGCHS memorial fund
The Coast Guard gift history goes back to 1917 when the first coast guard cutter, USCGC Auxiliary (AGS-1), was delivered to the Coast Guard. The first coast guard helicopter was delivered in 1951 and the first cutter PCG-8 was delivered in 1957. In 1978, the Coast Guard commissioned its own destroyer, CGK-5. In 1984, the Coast Guard purchased its first replenishment ship, HMCS Protecteur. The following year, it commissioned its own submarine USS Griggs (SSN 611).

The first people to live in the area now known as Newton were the Osage. The first permanent settler was John Haskell, who arrived in 1836. Haskell built a house on the present-day site of Newton in 1840. The town was named for Isaac Newton, an English scientist who lived in Boston during the early 1800s. In 1854, Kansas Territory was created from part of Missouri and Kansas, and Newton became one of its five towns. In 1870, the railroad came through Newton, and it began to grow quickly; by 1880, it had a population of about 175 people. By 1920, most of what is now Newton had been developed; there remained only a small portion of original land that served as a center for farming and ranching.
