Winfield's coast guard gift history goes back to 1912 when the town of Winfield established a volunteer fire department. In that year, the town council voted to establish a Coast Guard station in order to provide security on the banks of the Kansas River. The first Coast Guard detachment arrived in Winfield on November 12, 1912 and operated from a small fort on Topeka's riverbank. From that initial outpost, the Coast Guard quickly grew into one of Winfield's most important community members. Today, Winfield remains one of the top communities in Kansas for its voluntary local government commitment to law enforcement and public safety. The Town Council continues to support the Coast Guard by authorizing funds for new equipment and training programs. In addition, since 2007, Winfield has been home to both an Army Reserve Command Headquarters unit and an Air National Guard Base Unit (Airmen). Winfield is a small town in Pratt County, Kansas, United States. The population was 2,836 at the 2010 census. Winfield is the home of the Winfield-Stratford Rural School District and the Winfield Regional Airport. Winfield was founded in 1854 by David M. Ladd and his family. It was named for General Samuel Winfield, who fought in the Mexican-American War and became an American hero. In 1907, Winfield became a city when it incorporated. The first post office at Winfield was established in 1854, and served until 1860. The first store inWinFIELD was opened by Wm Houghton on Main Street in 1858. A stagecoach stop called "Haven" served as the town's passenger depot from 1859 to 1861; its route ran along present-day US 36 south of town. In 1865, local merchants joined together to form the Merchants' Association to promote trade within their community; this group built a courthouse and several other buildings including a Masonic Lodge (now known as Odd Fellows Hall). The association also organized a school district that included what is now WinFIELD Elementary School (founded 1888) and Stratford High School (founded 1915). In 1907, after incorporation as a city, WinFIELD experienced rapid growth due to its location on main streets with easy access to businesses and transportation options; this made it an ideal place for shopping malls and other large development projects which continue to thrive today. By 1990, however, economic recession had taken its toll on WINFIELD's retail sector; over half of all businesses closed between 1991 and 1992 alone. A major revitalization project announced in 2009 aimed at spurring economic growth began effort many small businesses throughout WINFIELD - from restaurateurs who reopened stores that had been closed for years or were only open during limited hours due to lack of business support through Contractor Development Services which provides hands-on help with starting up new businesses - creating jobs while improving infrastructure such as updated sidewalks/sidewalks and lights/streetlights throughout town center making it easier for pedestrians & drivers navigate without fear of getting lost or worse injured while walking or biking around town

Winfield was a stop on the Santa Fe Trail and decline due to its low population and lack of industry. However, it preserved its culture and history until 1887 when it lost its status as a community to Overland Park. In 1907, Winfield had a post office, but no schools or businesses existed in the town. However, over time, people started moving into Winfield from surrounding towns and villages because of its close proximity to Overland Park and good quality education available there. In 1969, over 60% of the citizens of Winfield were Wichita residents. The reason for this change is unknown, but it may have been due to changes in economy or housing prices within Overland Park at that time. By 2000, only about 10% ofWinstoners were Wichita residents however most residents still commuting into Overland Park for work or school reasons
