Bardstown is a small town in Kentucky. The population was 12,394 at the 2010 census. Bardstown is the county seat of Hardin County. The first settlers in Bardstown were men from Pennsylvania and Maryland who came overland to this area in 1814. They named the town after their patron saint, Saint Patrick, because they thought he would help them get along with the Indian people. After a few years, the men moved away and left behind a few homes and businesses which continued to be used as stores and residences until about 1920 when all of these buildings were destroyed by fire.
