Bardstown, Kentucky is a town located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Kentucky. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. Bardstown is home to the University of Kentucky Wildcats football team and Lexington-Fayette metropolitan area, which has a population of over 100,000 people. Bardstown's rich history dates back to 1795 when Major General David Coffee founded what is now known as Bardstown Plantation on land that he donated to the community for public use. The town was renamed after Confederate general Robert E. Lee in 1865 and grew rapidly thereafter due to its strategic location near Bowling Green, which became the state capital in 1873. Today, Bardstown remains a vibrant community with an active economy and expanding educational opportunities.
As coffee became more popular, so did its use as a battlefield drink. Coffee was originally brewed for military commanders to help them stay alert and focused on their battle. Over time, coffee became more popular as a civilian beverage and even enjoyed some popularity among certain groups such as the military. However, it wasn’t until the early 1800s that coffee started being used in warfare in earnest. At first it was only used foralertness and then later for strategic purposes. The first major battle where coffee was used as an intoxicant took place in 1814 when Napolean Bonaparte fought against Austrian troops at Ulm. After tasting the rich flavor of coffee while fighting, he ordered his forces to stop drinking wine and start drinking espresso instead. This decision led to Napoleone’s victory at Ulm and also gave him an edge over his opponents during war. However, not all wars were fought with cannons or swords; some battles were fought with cups of coffee. In 1798, French soldiers captured a Spanish army camped outside Paris after raiding their supplies barracks nearby. The Spanish officer who captained the unit decided to test out how much caffeine his troops could handle by drinking two cups of instant coffee before retiring for the night. He found that his men couldn’t focus on their battle because they were too tired from drinking instant coffee instead of ale or wine! This event is considered the beginning of instant-coffee Drinking Disorder which lasted into the 19th century! Coffee has been part of human history since long ago and continues to be enjoyed by many people today!
One of the firstintroduced tactical coffee was K-Cups, made by Keurig. These small, reusable cups can hold up to 20 ounces of coffee and are filled with a blend of ground beans and water.
Bardstown, Kentucky is a town in and the county seat of Mercer County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 30,653 at the 2010 census. Bardstown is located in the extreme northeastern corner of the state and is bordered by Nicholas County to the north and west, Jay County to the east, Campbell County to the south, and Mercer County to the southeast. The first people who lived here were natives of Scotland who came overland from that country about 1795. They built their cabin on a small stream called Bluegrass Creek about three miles northwest of present-day Bardstown. About 1800 another group of Scotsmen moved HERE and started a trading post near wherepresent-day Union University stands today. This pioneer community was named after James Robertson, an officer in Captain David Wilkinson's brigade which fought at Fallen Timbers in 1812. Another early settler here was John Smith who arrived about 1815 from Virginia with his family. He began farming on what is now Green Street near Main Street and built a log house which still stands today as part ofthe Bardstown Historic District." In 1827 two brothers named William Petty bought land adjacent to present day Union University for $2 per acre (1¢ per square foot). One year later they donated half their land comprising what is now Green Street and Main Street to form Bardstown College (later known as Central Kentucky Community College). That same year also saw construction of what are now Union University buildings on this campus – one of only two colleges in Kentucky then! In 1830 Petty gave additional land adjoining Central KY CC for college use – this became present day Morrison Hall! In 1840 local resident James Auld donated 104 acres along US 31 east side for Agricultural & Mechanical College; it became today’s main campus building! The townspeople petitioned for city status in 1856 but this request was denied because there were no streets or proper facilities within town limits! However, when Louisville opened its new courthouse downtown in 1860, Bardstown quickly got involved with that activity! By 1870 it had become home to several businesses including abolitionist John Brown's Home Missionary Society (now Elijah Muhammad's Mosque), an early black Baptist church (1875), jail (1891), post office (1892), Masonic lodge No. 1 (1901), fire department No. 1 (1920) – all while still being considered a rural community! Some interesting facts about this time include that: "Bardstown had five schools - Girls School [now Elizabethtown Female Academy], High School [now Northern Illinois University], Business School [now Southern Illinois University Carbondale], Elementary School [Now White Hill Academy] - when Louisville school system closed down in 1960 all these schools merged into one." With so much going on within its tiny confines during these years some aspects remain quite unique such as "the singleest instance'of electric lighting ever used inside any public building IN AMERICA!" Also unique are current Olde Hickory Coffee Company locations around town – first at Southeastern Avenue & Elm St., then Fourth Avenue NE & Market St., finally Third Avenue SE & Park Ave…..and many more yetto be mentioned 🙂
Bardstown was founded in 1785 by James Robertson. The city's first post office was opened in 1801. Bardstown became a state capital in 1861. During the American Civil War, Bardstown was the site of several battles, including the Battle of Bardstown Heights.
