In 1881, two coffee farmers, John Campbell and George Goodwin, started a small farm in present-day Campbellsville, Kentucky. Over the next few years, they developed a successful bean-growing business. In 1886, they began shipping their beans to Louisville for roasting. By 1912, Campbellsville had become one of the leading coffee towns in the United States.
Campbellsville, Kentucky is a small town in the Appalachian Mountains of western Kentucky. The population was 1,782 at the 2010 census. Campbellsville is located on the eastern edge of the Bluegrass Country region and is bordered by Eastern Kentucky to the north and west and Paducah, KY to the south. The town was founded in 1845 by Alexander Campbell, an early settler from North Carolina. It named after General John Campbell, who fought in both American (1812-14) and Mexican-American Wars. In 1853, Campbellsville became a post office under the name of Fort Knox. In 1911, Colonel George Patton's 4th Infantry Division was quartered here during its campaign against World War I; when it left for France three weeks later, Patton ordered all units mustered out here before disbanding them back at home. Patton's headquarters were situated on Main Street until they moved into nearby White House Hill in 1922. The school system that now operates in Campbellsville was organized around 1892 when a group of Scotsmen led by Reverend John Weir formed what is known as "the First Presbyterian School District". It served grades one through twelve with a primary focus on religious education; however, over time other educational programs have been offered such as music and science classes which are still offered today. The district has since become part of Commonweal Parish High School System with more than 5200 students enrolled across grades seven through twelve base categories including: math/science/high school diploma (GED), English language arts (ELA), social studies (SSS), health sciences/medical technology (HSTM), business or agricultural technology (BET). monster This year marks 50 years since first graduating high school seniors from our local high school!

It rapidly grew during the 19th century as a result of its strategic location and its major businesses: transportation, shipping, manufacturing, agriculture, and retailing. The city also developed a significant population of African Americans who worked in various industries throughout the 19th century. The city experienced several surges in growth during the 20th century, including two major expansions that occurred in the 1930s and 1960s. However, economic decline began to take hold in the later half of the 21st century and has continued to this day;Campbellsville is currently experiencing a low level of joblessness. The economy remains largely rural with only a few small businesses offering services outside of agriculture or commerce.

In 1830, they opened their own mill which continued until 1860 when it closed due to factors such as competition from imports. The town experienced another industrial boom starting in the mid-19th century due to cotton production. This led to development of mills such as The General Mills Company (founded 1865), which employed up to 12 workers at its peak; The Ford Motor Company (founded 1913); and Belknap Glass Works (founded 1916). However, these industries also resulted in many job losses during World War I because of wartime production restrictions. After World War I ended, much of the industry closed down or transitioned into new technologies; for example, The General Mills Company became a computer manufacturer following electrification in 1922. However, most of these businesses failed during the Great Depression which hit Campbellsville particularly hard.
