The coffee is roasted on site using a traditional Colombian-processed method that includes lotus seed oil and Folger's True Blue Africa beans. The company was started by two Italian immigrants who ran a small grocery store in Florence, Kentucky. They started to roast their own coffee and sell it direct to customers. In 1978, the two founders decided to open an artisan café called Cafe Gambero. This café served as the foundation for what became Artisan Coffee today. Florence is a small town in Johnson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lexington-Fayette metropolitan area. The town began as an agricultural community near the confluence of the Little River and Big River rivers in 1820. A post office was established in 1827, and by 1830, Florence had a population of about 50 people. The settlement grew rapidly during the 1830s and 1840s due to the growth of coal mining in eastern Kentucky and because of the construction of roads and other infrastructure necessary for development. By 1850, Florence had a population of 1,000 people. In 1851–1852, there was a major flood that destroyed many homes and businesses in Florence; however, no one was killed or injured as a result. During Reconstruction following the Civil War (1861–1865), Florence became one of the most industrialized communities in central Appalachia due to its coalmining industry and its location on canals that connected important markets with nearby towns such as Danville, Kentucky; Greeneville, Tennessee; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Louisville/Jefferson County/Morehead City, Kentucky; and Frankfort/Springfield/Edwardsville IN). During this time period: -The first integrated public schools were built in Florence -Florence become home to several large industrial companies including American Tobacco Company (later Altria Group), J C Penney Co., Bethlehem Steel Corporation (later Alcoa), Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (later Pirelli Tire & Rubber Company), Phelps Dodge Chemical Corporation (later Monsanto) -The town also experienced significant growth within its African American community which emerged from cotton plantations located around central Appalachia during this time period

Florence is a small town in Bedford County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville metropolitan area. The town was founded by frontiersman Daniel Boone in 1775 as a trading post on the Ohio River. In 1802, he named it after his sister-in-law, Florence Hays. In 1819, John Forbes built a dam across the river and renamed Florence "Richmond". The name change came about because of this event: when residents of Richmond petitioned to have their community renamed for King George III following his coronation in 1820, they were met with resistance from people living in Florence who insisted that their community be called "Fineburg". Eventually, the town got its new name and became one of Kentucky's most important cities. Florence was incorporated as a city on December 12, 1907. It had a population of 69 when it first became an official city; it grew to 302 by 1920 and 447 by 1930.During World War II, Florence served as headquarters for American forces occupying northern France until May 1942 when Allied forces moved southward into southern France

By 1860, it had grown to include the towns of Paintsville and Princeton. On February 14, 1861, Florence became part of the newly created state of Kentucky when it was split from Missouri. The new state lost much of its territory due to the American Civil War and by 1865 Florence was only a small town with 2 square blocks. It recommenced growth in the early 21st century as more people moved into the area around University Park Boulevard and Memorial Drive. In October 2011, residents voted to incorporate as a city and Florence became one of only two cities in Kentucky (the other being Bardstown) that has this ability.
