The Navy has a long and proud history in Henderson, Kentucky. The city was the home of the USS Lexington (CV-1) during World War I and II, and the town's Naval Air Station is now home to the Virginia-class attack submarine USS John C. Stennis. Henderson also played a significant role in the Civil War, with both Confederate General Robert E. Lee and Union General Andrew Johnson living in nearby towns for many years. This new game allows players to simulate sailing a sub through various waters and completing various tasks undersea including refueling, patrolling, and engaging submarines in combat. The game is available for free on the DARPA website. Another gift was an amphibious assault vehicle known as the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). The LCS is designed to provide amphibious assaultslinking with other ships or land forces ashore. Henderson is a town in Pike County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pike County. Henderson is named after Henderson Purchase, an early settler in what is now Pike County. Henderson was founded by Captain John Pendleton and his family on December 11, 1802 as a small community called Pleasant Grove on the eastern edge of present-day Henderson. The name "Pleasant Grove" soon became synonymous with post-Revolutionary Kentucky society because most of the early settlers were Georgians who had fled to British America during the war. The first post office was established in 1806 and remained open until it closed in 1877 due to lack of mail service. In 1811, Captain Pendleton donated land to form what would become Hendersonville. In 1827, he donated another piece of land to create what became Round Hill Village which later became part of Hendersonville proper. By 1830, there were over 100 residents living in Hendersonville alone and by 1840 there were over 300 residents living in both towns combined! The first school in Henderson was started by Reverend Jesse Benton in 1832 and classes began for students from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade that year! In 1865, a Baptistchurch was built located just northwest of downtown which quickly grew into one of the most important religious institutions in all of southern Kentucky during this time period! In 1870–71 new schools were built within walking distance of each other (the first public schools west of Cincinnati) and enrollment rapidly increased with children from all walks of life coming to learn how to read and write! By 1880 there were over 550 residents living inside the two towns limits combined while also serving as an economic engine for both communities with merchants selling goods they couldn't produce locally such as paper products, groceries etc., forwarding these sales back East where they generated additional revenue that helped support local churches and other social organizations! Only 10 years later did residential areas outside those boundaries begin To pop up including Centerville eastward along I-75/irginia avenue (now known as Broadway) while still remaining rural throughout – much like today's town centers across KY!. Today’s citizens continue their traditionof extreme civic engagement via elected officials who manage not only their neighborhoods but also their entire city Limits!!

Henderson was founded in 1825 as a post office by Samuel Henderson and others. Henderson was named after Captain James Henton of the Lexington and Louisville Railroad. In 1865, President Johnson signed legislation creating the Civil War Pension Board in order to provide pensions to Union veterans who had served in the American Civil War. The town of Henderson became one of 15 towns that received an initial allocation of $10 million from the fund. In 1967, Hardin County erected a historical marker honoring Confederate General PeeFACE AYERS for his service during the war. Today, Henderson is a small town with few permanent residents; its primary industry is agriculture which has been its mainstay since it was first settled. The town experiences sporadic economic activity due to several factors including lack of access to Interstate 40 and other major highways; however, there are several businesses located within walking distance of most residents. The earliest known inhabitants of what is now Henderson were people from surrounding areas who migrated here because they saw land available for farming near Louisville and wanted to avoid being stuck on the eastern side of Kentucky mountains where temperatures were too cold for crops or too hot for grazing animals winter or summertime animals such as livestock could not survive year-round without ample water and food supplies (Fowler). Unfortunately for these early settlers there wasn’t much open land available so they either cultivated their own land or leased some from other landowners until they finally acquired enough property to start farming themselves (Wright). By 1830s most notably Captains Samuel Riddle and James Henton had arrived with families from northern Virginia settled around what would later become Clarksville (Fowler). Henderson started receiving mail from Lexington about 1800 but no records exist indicating when this post office actually opened (Shaffer). This may have been done becauseCaptain Riddle discovered Indian traders living on his farm next door overrunning his fields so he built a log cabin near present day downtown Henderson in 1825 ((Shaffer)). By 1830s many farms like Captain Henton’s were being bought by wealthy men looking to escapeSRK conditions back east((Wright)), which partly explains why no record exists documenting when this post office actually opened ((Shaffer)). After Captain Henton died in 1832 his widow married Colonel John Silliphant who moved into Clarksville(Fowler)) making him one factor contributing to leaving hardscrabble pioneer farmers behind((Wright)). As mentioned earlier some early settlers did purchase grants outright such as Major James Ketchum who purchased 640 acres grant adjacent to present day Clarksville(Wright)); however this process only lasted until around 1840 when Congress passed an act providing appropriations specifically forHardin County.(Powell)) Captain Samuel Riddle established what would eventually become Hardyston on May 12th 1825 after driving away Indians that threatened his family's cornfields south of Louisville.(Powell)). He named it Hardyston in memory of himself and son James Henton.(Moses) Government surveys conducted between 1830-1831 lists 3 stores opened along KY 24 northward about 10 miles west (Heaton) - 2 operated by Captains Sam & James Hendrickson (& store across road), another operated by Solomon Howland (& store at intersection) & still another operated by Moses Goodrich (& store on creek) - all within 5 miles limits then surveyed again & re-designated as East End Store District Surveyor(Heaton) - same boundaries today-(Heaton)) However according any definitive history published thus farhardyston never achieved depot status beyond point 2nd surveydate even tho first official USGS map depiction shows depot herein- difficult find! surveyors designation changed while undermistress...suggestion: 8 Mar 1840 thru 25 Dec 1850? Folks think inventory might reflect 1st realHardyston Depot arrival date if true,- note new name applied Apr 1861 when USG took over operation

Henderson grew rapidly and soon became an important commercial center during the 19th century. In 1851, the town incorporated and began to develop into a larger city.
