The Murray, Kentucky Marine Museum has a rich history dating back to 1856. The museum was started by the late Mrs. J. W. Ketchum and her husband, Dr. J. Hargrave Ketchum, who donated the land for the museum on which it stands today. The first floor of the museum was devoted to maritime history with exhibits on fishing boats, whaling ships, and ocean liners from throughout history. In addition to this floor, there were also displays on naval vessels and submarines in storage or display condition from various navies around the world. Since its inception, the marine museum has grown into one of largest in Kentucky with over 150 volunteers working full-time at the facility! currently there are 4 floors that house over 350 items including model vessels (both public and private), memorabilia from maritime families across KY., aircraft models/toys/figures/paintings/, tools & equipment used in marine work (including a torpedo boat!), as well as replica shipbuilding projects galore!

Murray, Kentucky is a small town in the southern part of the United States. The population was 448 at the 2010 census. It has been inhabited by humans since prehistory. The first written record of Murray comes from 12,000 years ago when Paleo-Indians were living in and around the area. In 1827, Canadian trader David Thompson named the area Murray after General James Murray who had helped lead British forces during the Battle of Yorktown in 1781. At that time, most of what is now Kentucky was part of Virginia. After America won its independence from Great Britain, farming began to take off in Murray and other areas of western Kentucky. This led to an increase in trade with surrounding states and eventually increased investment from outside investors which created jobs for locals. In 1859, John Fenton founded New Lexington on land he had purchased from Daniel Boone for $1 million dollars. The town quickly became a center for education and industry due to its location near major highways and railroads). However, it would be another 25 years before New Lexington would become nationally known as a center for music because it was home to one of America's first recording studios – Columbia Records – as well as being one of the most important cities in early rock ‘n’ roll history (the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) chose New Lexington as their cityofrecord award recipient back in 1957). During World War II, many residents turned out to help fight overseas; some even served in military units or took up arms against fascism and communism while others simply helped manage local businesses during wartime shortages (). Many people also lost their homes or jobs during war-time rationing (), so there was little middle class development until after the war ended (). However, things started slowly to change again once peace returned and entrepreneurs new ideas about how technology could benefit society such as computer automation ().
