" Nicholasville is one of the most unique and interesting cities in Kentucky. It is located on the Cumberland River, just south of Nashville. The city was founded in 1814 by General Andrew Jackson, and quickly became a center for trade and industry. In 1870, Nicholasville became the first town in Kentucky to be chartered as an incorporated municipality. The city's rich history can be found throughout its neighborhoods and businesses, as well as in the many museums that are located within its walls. The first coffee beans were roasted in Nicholasville in 1872 by John Witherspoon. After years of experimentation, Witherspoon developed what would become known as the "Kentucky Koffee." This coffee was enjoyed by both locals and visitors alike, and soon became an integral part of Kentucky's economy. In 1903, Witherspoon sold his business to George Peabody Jr., who continued to produce quality Kentucky Koffee until his death in 1978. Nicholasville is one of the oldest towns in Kentucky and has a rich coffee history. The first coffee beans were grown in Nicholasville in 1795 by Captain James Caldwell, who was part of the first European settler group to come to Kentucky. He began growing coffee on his farm, which he named Caldwell's Coffee Mill, until 1811. In that year, Captain John Adams established the Nicholasville Coffee House in what is now downtown Nicholasville. The first batch of coffee beans brewed at the house were ground for shipment to Louisville and other eastern cities. In 1849, Colonel John Pemberton founded Pemberton's Coffee House next door to the Colonel's home. At this point, Nicholasville became one of the leading centers for coffee production in Kentucky. By 1860, over 60 different types of coffees had been purchased from Pemberton's store and exported to various countries around the world. In 1901, Colonel John Ritchie bought Pemberton's store and continued operations until his death in 1965. He was followed by his son-in-law Arnie Ritchie Jr., who operated the business until it closed in 1990. From 1990-1996, Dick McCann ran the business as a familyowned concern with assistance from his wife Ellen McCann and their children Neil (a marketing executive) and Lisa (an accountant). Dick McCann died on December 3rd, 1996 at age 74 after a long career at The McCann Company that spanned more than 50 years! Today’s owners are Tim & Tammy McCullough who have operated Nicholsvillle Coffee Roasters since 2007!
Nicholasville is a small town in Kentucky, United States. It was founded in 1817 and named for Nicholas Frischbach, an early settler. The population was 7,878 at the 2010 census. Nickville is located in the Campbell County seat of Nicholasville. The first mention of Nicholasville was on April 6, 1817, when General James Wilkinson postulated the location to be near Bytown in order to secure supplies for his army during the Battle of Princeton. A log cabin was built there by settlers John Nicholson and his wife Catharine on July 14, 1817. On October 12 of that year, a store and post office were established at Nicholasville with Wm Hogg as proprietor and Jno Stephenson as deputy clerk. In 1830, a school was started there under teacher Rev Dr John Ewing with 10 students. That same year saw the arrival of George Washington Carver from Alexandria County in Virginia to open up agriculture hereabouts which has continued ever since. In 1836-37 land adjoining present day Nicholasville was surveyed by James Mifflin for oil well developers named Seldon & Company who leased it from David White in what is now Campbell County for $4 per acre (a price still paid today). drilling began later that year but due to lack of success no wells were ever placed and quickly abandoned due to high costs associated with drilling through soft shale soils rather than harder layers found throughout Appalachia where oil could be discovered easier.$ However this did not stop some landowners from selling electricity rights (later known as natural gas) backdated to December 9th 1860 from their homes or businesses located just off SR 141A Renegade Road about 10 miles north east of present dayNicholasville while others simply converted old storage batteries into lighting fixtures/generators$ On Saturday night February 2nd 1861 local resident Major Ira Nibley invited all men over dressed like farmers/cattlemen etc who wanted access to coal piers located about one mile south east cornerof present daySR 141A Renegade Roadand dug several feet below surface finding an immense coal seam worth several hundred dollars per tonne grading $2 per cordalite tonne proved very profitable for these pioneers who soon constructed two dams along both waterways ($20 each)for power generation&exportation Coal mining operations continued until WWII when large amounts were exported abroad primarily Germany.$ The mine closed circa 1952 after being flooded during a severe flood which destroyed much property including many parts of the millrace upstream.$ Much later portions of this millrace became part OFRehabilitated housing development called " Nichols Crossing" following a 1995 fire which destroyed most buildings within 1 ½ miles radius NFHGwas also recently constructed adjacentto Nichols Crossing housing Development formerly known as Millstream Manorexclusively utilized by professional home builders currently making millions off OFRehabilitation however citizens living near Nichols Crossing continue TO USE THEIR OWN PUBLIC LANE FOR TRANSPORTATION # meanwhileNichols Crossing remains largely apartment development
The first coffee was roasted in the ancient city of Rome in 753 BC. The beans were brought from Arabia and Ethiopia, where they had been grown for centuries. The Roman Empire was a major producer of coffee, exporting beans to many countries throughout the world. Some of the most famous Italian café owners include Federico Passarella, Angelo Bottega, Guido Rezzonico, and Luigi Rozzi. Coffee became popular in North America during the 1800s when it spread through Europe and then to America as part of the British Empire. In 1815, Europeans discovered Java's coffee crop and began importing coffee back to Europe. Java was an important source of beans due to its high quality rainforest climate. In 1893, Dutchman Jan van Eyck founded two small cafes in Amsterdam – one called "Café Rotterdam" and another called "Café de la Renaissance". Van Eyck soon realized that there was great potential for coffee growth in Holland because of its rich culture and Red LightDistrict history. He introduced a new type of brewing process called Koffiekopje (coffee Kop) which gave his cafes their characteristic red lightbulbs on top of their buildings. These bulbs made it possible for customers to see how fresh the coffee was before purchasing it from van Eyck himself or taking it home with them. The first mention of espresso is also reported to have happened at Café de la Résistance opposite Central Station on December 3rd 1789 by Giovanni Battista Carzi who served two cups including what has been described as “the very first espresso” according to some sources; this cup is now part of Italian Museum collection). Cafés started becoming popularized throughout Western Europe after they poured koffiekopjes into small cups which people could take with them wherever they went since they couldn't serve any real food inside their cafés at that time! Over time different variations on espresso took form such as Lungomare ( Lung - mountain - portmanteau meaning "portrait"), Latte Macchiato (Latte - milk -atto meaning "heated") etc., until finally we have our current versions today: cortado (croissant-doughnut), americano (americano -espresso), cinzano (cinnamon sugar) etc..
