In 1850, one of the founders of Owensboro, Mose Allison, started a grocery store on Main Street that became one of the most important businesses in town. This store was known for its quality coffee and other products. In 1882, another founder of Owensboro, Reverend C.W. Post, opened his own church on Third Street and he also started selling coffee. During World War I, many men from Owensboro enlisted in the military and they needed to bring their favorite items with them when they left for war. One such item was Coffee House #1 which had been operated by Mr. Post since 1882 until it closed its doors at the end of 1919 due to wartime shortages caused by America's involvement in World War I. Many people who frequented Coffee House #1 said it had always been one of the best places to get your caffeine fix without having to leave your home or go out into society! When the war ended, many soldiers returned home and they wanted their old cafes back open so they could continue serving their friends and family with delicious cups of roasted beans from various origins countries! After several years closure by Mrs. Post (the last owner), her son Sam reopened Coffee House #1 as an independently owned business on First Avenue in 1951 under the name "Sam's Place". With Sam's Place as its focus, Coffee House #1 continued providing high-quality espresso drinks until it closed its doors again at the turn of the century due to fire damage sustained during prohibition Era times! Owensboro is a town in Jefferson County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 3,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Jefferson County. Owensboro was founded in 1825 and named for General John C. Owens by his friend and neighbor James Witherspoon. The first post office was established in Owensboro on December 4, 1827, and the first store was opened in 1828. The town grew rapidly during the 1830s due to its location on the main wagon road between Louisville and Nashville. By 1840, Owensboro had a school, jail, Methodist church, four stores and 150 residents. The economy of Owensboro quickly shifted from agriculture to manufacturing beginning in the late 19th century as a result of increased trade with nearby Louisville and Nashville. Manufacturing expansions led to heavy development of downtown which included new buildings such as an opera house and several hospitals. In 1925, General Motors moved its operations from Flint Michigan to Owen's Station in order to build their third car plant there; this delayed construction until 1929 when production finally began on what would become one of GM's largest plants worldwide. During World War II (1939-1945), Owensboro became known for its production of military vehicles such as tanks and artillery pieces; more than 1 million vehicles were made here alone during that time period. After the war ended, many factories closed down throughout east Kentucky due to economic reasons – including those at Owen's Station – but later reactivated thanks to technological advances such as plastics manufacturing being brought over from Mexico City through trucking routes running through central Kentucky en route to eastern markets
